走過一條繁華的街道，就到了丟掉水鄉(xiāng)古鎮(zhèn)的東大門，大家請看那座高大的牌樓，上面書寫著大捷門三個大字，它是為了紀念太平天國在這塊土地上勇戰(zhàn)湘軍，大獲全勝的歷史功績。1858年11月太平天國次陳玉成，李秀成根據(jù)計劃，圍捷三河，全殲湘軍精銳李繼賓部六千余人，取得了近代史上有名的三河大捷。第二年，也就是陳玉成二十二歲那年，他因戰(zhàn)功顯赫而被洪秀全封為英王，在三河，人們習慣于把三河大捷時陳玉成的指揮部稱為英王府。將通往英王府的這條路稱為英王路，前面就是英王府，大家可以進去自由參觀一下。
在英王路的斜對面，有一座古色古香的建筑物它就是萬年臺，清朝咸豐年間，三河建有兩座萬年臺，前者為師傅所建，后者系徒弟所造，他們兩人建萬年臺時，約定都用八根柱子，誰知第二年，師傅用偷梁換柱法，將柱子抽去四根，僅留下四根，所以城隍廟的萬年臺只有四根頂梁，看上去十分精巧，雅觀，造型超過了他徒弟所建的大王廟萬年臺，此萬年臺系后重建的。
大家向右走，現(xiàn)在大家來到的就是古西街。街道不寬，全是青石板鋪就的路，兩側(cè)民居多建于明清時代，古西街原長五百來米，曾號稱五里古街。三河鎮(zhèn)在古時交通閉塞的情況下具有水鄉(xiāng)交通便捷的優(yōu)勢，使這里的商品經(jīng)濟一時得到空前的繁榮。

古老的三河已經(jīng)有2500多年的歷史了，因豐樂河、杭埠河和小南河三水流灌其間而得名。早在戰(zhàn)國時期古鎮(zhèn)就已具雛形，因為經(jīng)常有許多水鳥在這里聚集所以在那時又被稱為鵲渚、鵲岸;直到明朝才被稱為三河。在這三條河流中，主要的河道要數(shù)豐樂河和小南河了。鎮(zhèn)內(nèi)，河水纏繞五里長街;鎮(zhèn)外，圩堤交錯，支津回互;具有外環(huán)兩岸、中峙三洲的獨特地貌，占盡廬南水鄉(xiāng)地利，是安徽著名的魚米之鄉(xiāng)。因為這里交通便利，本地的稻米魚蝦，上游的山貨特產(chǎn)，下游的絲綢百貨都經(jīng)過此地集散后流向四面八方，故三河贏得了 ‘裝不完的三河’和‘皖中商品走廊’等美譽。

古鎮(zhèn)三河水鄉(xiāng)如夢，古河如畫。水多，河多，行走不方便，所以橋也自然多了起來，僅在小南河上就有三縣橋，望月橋，天然橋，人民橋等5座橋梁。這些橋，不但古韻猶存，而且座座橋名都有著不同的傳奇故事。就拿望月橋來說吧：望月橋是古鎮(zhèn)三河新建的風景橋，是一座拱形踏步單孔石橋。整座橋全是用厚青石鋪就，欄桿上皆有青石浮雕。晚上登上這座橋，仰望空中明月，俯瞰水中倒影，會給您詩一般的感受。在眾多橋梁中最為著名的還要數(shù)三縣橋了。或許大家會問為什么會稱它為三縣橋呢，那是因為這座三縣橋是三河古鎮(zhèn)現(xiàn)存的古橋中歷史最久的一座，橫跨小南河上，位于古鎮(zhèn)的中心，成為連接肥西、舒城、廬江三縣的紐帶，所以稱三縣橋。由于整座橋全是用大料石搭建，所以當?shù)厝擞址Q它為石頭大橋。最令人稱奇的當數(shù)三縣橋的建橋工藝了，當年一塊塊橋石都是用煮熟的糯米加雞蛋清熬成的漿灌縫牢牢地粘結在一起的呢。
古鎮(zhèn)三河因水得名也因水而聞名。三河水美，水給古鎮(zhèn)帶來了靈性，但也不斷遭受水患之苦。特別是1991年7月11日16時17分，豐樂河水位高達14·23米，新圩段大堤潰決，古鎮(zhèn)三河遭受滅頂之災，被特大洪水吞沒。在那場震驚全國、震動世界的特大洪水面前，在黨中央、國務院的關心下，全國人民和國際友人的援助下，上下一心，軍民合力，解救被洪水圍困的群眾6000余人，創(chuàng)造了百年不遇的大水中未淹死一人、餓死一人、病死一人的亙古奇跡。
