　　秦始皇一行人浩浩蕩蕩上了泰山，祭了天，還在山頂上立起一塊大石碑。不久，天色突變，烏云滾滾，眼看就要下大雨。有人說泰山山神發(fā)怒的時候，就有烏云黑雨，山洪暴發(fā)，人畜都要沖走。秦始皇心中有鬼，以為得罪了山神，拔腿就往山下跑，手下一批人也緊跟而逃。這伙人剛剛跑到五松亭這個地方，只聽得一聲驚雷，瓢潑大雨就劈頭蓋腦地下來了。秦始皇養(yǎng)尊處優(yōu)貫了，休說山洪，這場大雨就淋得站立不住，眼看要被沖下山去。正在危急時候，忽然發(fā)現(xiàn)路邊有一棵大松樹。這位不可一世的大皇帝，趕忙雙膝跪在樹前，兩手死死抱住樹干，口中念念有詞，哀求樹神保佑。雨下得快收得也快，不久就停了。秦始皇還真以為樹神在護駕，于是就加封那棵救他的松樹為“五大夫松”。

　　據(jù)《史記》記載，秦始皇登封泰山，中途遇雨，避于一棵大樹之下，因大樹護駕有功，遂封該樹為“五大夫”爵位。誰知后世訛為五株。明代萬歷年間，古松被雷雨所毀。清雍正年間，欽差丁皂保奉敕重修泰山時，補植五株松樹，現(xiàn)存二株，虬枝拳曲，蒼勁古拙，自古被譽為“秦松挺秀”，為泰安古八景之一。五松亭旁有乾隆皇帝御制《詠五大夫松》摩刻。五大夫松以西有攔住山，山坡上有望人松，虬枝下伸，若躬身招手邀客，又名迎客松，為泰山重要標志物之一。西北是朝陽洞，一天然石穴深廣如屋，南辟向陽，舊名迎陽、云陽。洞后壁有線刻元君像。
