　　My Oscar Dream

　　On the night of March 1, the 76th Annual Academy Awards was shown on television. After watching it, I had a dream, a sudden wish, that some day, I could receive an Oscar award, or a nomination, for a movie I've made.

　　While I was schooling in Australia, my friends from school and I received a n assignment one day, "To make a ten to twenty minute movie on the topic of your choice." At the time, the trend was based around the popular Matrix movie trilogy, so that became our obvious choice.

　　Because our schedule was very tight, and it was a first time experience, we found it all very hard work, but when we released our production at school, it was worth it. After my friends and I showed the movie, we could not get from one end of the school to the other without getting congratulated about five or six times. We, especially I, were proud. We made a school-wide sensation.

　　From then on, I became obsessed with how to make movies and how filming is done. I just wanted to know about everyone and everything that has something to do with movies. I would watch a movie four to five times, just to find out how one camera angle, or special effect was produced. I found everything I watched quite amazing. I sometimes admired directors and producers of these films because the techniques they use are so smart. Their cleverness inspired me to make and act in movies.

　　When I become little bit older, I would like to attend a movie academy in Beijing or Shanghai, then America, or England, after some training and experience, I would like to make a movie, which will most likely be an action movie, which is my favorite kind of movie to watch.. If I am lucky, I hope I would get an Oscar Award for this movie. I think that would be quite a challenge, but it’s not impossible. For now, it’s back to watching movies over and over again for me!

　　怎樣幫助孩子學(xué)好英語呢?我們老師自然是最直接的知識傳授者，有著不可推卸的責(zé)任。在此，我們只是真誠地呼吁我們的家長配合學(xué)校，配合老師，靠我們共同的努力來幫助孩子學(xué)好英語。用一句時髦的話說：我們要和孩子共同成長。

　　重視良好的學(xué)習(xí)習(xí)慣的培養(yǎng)

　　(1)讓孩子多聽錄音在少兒英語教學(xué)中，首先是加強聽力訓(xùn)練和說話訓(xùn)練，然后才是讀寫能力的培養(yǎng)。聽說能力差，用英語進行交際的能力差，為此，家長一定要配合學(xué)校來要求孩子，要創(chuàng)造條件讓孩子多聽，多聽純正的錄音，聽幾遍、聽清楚了以后，跟著說。按照眼前利益來看，我們的升學(xué)考試也一年比一年注重聽力、閱讀等需要綜合能力的部分。比如前年的聽力占35分，去年就已經(jīng)占40分了。

　　(2)讓孩子大聲說英語家長要每天留出15分鐘左右時間讓孩子讀讀英語，不管當天有無英語課。我們要鼓勵孩子大聲地朗讀、對話、問答，大聲說，不害羞，這樣有利于清楚地表達自己，也有利于他人糾正自己的錯誤。

　　(3)讓孩子熟練背誦課文和單詞背誦是一項基本功，可以積累一些日常用語，到用的時等候就可以脫口而出。但是在背誦過程中要講究方法，不可操之過急，要注意分散和集中相結(jié)合。我們一般是分段教課文，那就可以請學(xué)生分段背課文。等快教完的時候，再把課文串起來背，這樣可以降低一點難度，讓學(xué)生背得輕松些。但是在檢查過程中，我們發(fā)現(xiàn)有一部分學(xué)生背得相當熟練，可問他課文中的某個詞組或句子的意思時，他卻一問三不知。所以，我們在背誦過程中要注意上下文的理解，在理解的基礎(chǔ)上達到背誦的要求，課文中涉及到的相關(guān)詞組和句型，要讓學(xué)生熟記，并能用它們來造句、說話。

　　在具體的實施過程中發(fā)現(xiàn)：有些學(xué)生根本不用心學(xué)，能偷懶則偷懶，很多家長比較負責(zé)會查問有沒有教新課，要不要默寫，但孩子不老實，欺騙家長。這時候，你應(yīng)該及時跟我聯(lián)系，讓孩子知道：欺騙不是辦法，也會受到相應(yīng)的懲罰。

　　單詞亦是如此，分散記憶、根據(jù)讀音記憶單詞都是可取的方法。有時，我們回家布置抄寫單詞，其目的不在于抄，而在于提醒學(xué)生記憶這些單詞。但是在日常學(xué)習(xí)中，學(xué)生不重視這項作業(yè)，認為只是抄抄而已，不做也沒什么關(guān)系，其實他連抄寫都不做，根本別說是去背了，結(jié)果幾次下來，他負債累累，應(yīng)付不過來，學(xué)習(xí)處于被動狀態(tài)，從而影響了以后的學(xué)習(xí)，出現(xiàn)退步現(xiàn)象。因此，請大家在家里督促孩子保質(zhì)保量地完成英語作業(yè)，該讀的讀、該說的說、該寫的寫、該記的記，及時鞏固，養(yǎng)成良好的習(xí)慣。父母親的良好榜樣起著很大作用。孩子一般還沒有明確的學(xué)習(xí)目的，這時，父母親對學(xué)習(xí)的態(tài)度，特別是行為，會極大地影響孩子。

　　When having to make a choice most people think they have to choose between the two. Far too often people go for the latter and naturally choose fun. For instance many people would prefer watching television, or more commonly known as TV to exercising, we all know that it’s true, right? The problem is, if you don’t exercise you will become weak and ultimately out of shape and it is no fun to be out of shape, right? So the question is, why not turn exercise into fun?

　　As an example, if TV is your favorite thing to do, why not connect your TV set to an electric generator that is charged by a stationary bike, you know, the kind of bike you peddle, that doesn’t go anywhere. So think about it, the more you watch TV, the fitter you’ll be.

　　Now if you are the kind of person who thinks listening to music is fun and you spend many hours alone tap tap tapping your fingers and your toes to the beat, why not take it one step further and get up on your feet and dance, dance, dance.

　　Or maybe you’re the type of person who prefers being with your friends. There are many ways one could have fun with their pals. For instance you could just hang out and do nothing or better yet you could get into a friendly game of basketball or football there is no rule that says everyone has to be as good as Yao Ming or David Beckham, right?

　　However sometimes there just aren’t enough players, or you may even be alone in which case you could go for a ride on your bike, maybe, stop by the library to borrow a book, or go for a walk around the park and enjoy the sunshine and scenery. Before you know it, you’re having fun.

　　Let’s face it, exercise is work and when we think of work we think of thankless underpaid hardships yet it needn’t be this way, if we think of exercise as fun.

　　Smoking is a greater cause of death and disability than any single disease, says the World Health Organisation.

　　According to their figures, it is responsible for approximately five million deaths worldwide every year.

　　Tobacco smoking is a known or probable cause of approximately 25 diseases, and even the WHO says that its impact on world health is not fully assessed.

　　Heart attack and stroke

　　UK studies show that smokers in their 30s and 40s are five times more likely to have a heart attack than non-smokers.

　　Tobacco contributes to the hardening of the arteries, which can then become blocked and starve the heart of bloodflow, causing the attack.

　　Often, smokers who develop this will require complex and risky heart bypass surgery.

　　If you smoke for a lifetime, there is a 50% chance that your eventual death will be smoking-related - half of all these deaths will be in middle age.

　　Smoking also increases the risk of having a stroke.

　　Lung problems

　　Another primary health risk associated with smoking are lung cancer, which kills more than 20,000 people in the UK every year.

　　US studies have shown that men who smoke increase their chances of dying from the disease by more than 22 times.

　　Women who smoke increase this risk by nearly 12 times.

　　Lung cancer is a difficult cancer to treat - long term survival rates are poor.

　　Smoking also increases the risk of oral, uterine, liver, kidney, bladder, stomach, and cervical cancers, and leukaemia.

　　Another health problem associated with tobacco is emphysema, which, when combined with chronic bronchitis, produces chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

　　he lung damage which causes emphysema is irreversible, and makes it extremely difficult to breathe.

　　Harm to children

　　Smoking in pregnancy greatly increases the risk of miscarriage, is associated with lower birthweight babies, and inhibited child development.

　　Smoking by parents following the birth is linked to sudden infant death syndrome, or cot death, and higher rates of infant respiratory illness, such as bronchitis, colds, and pneumonia.

　　Nicotine, an ingredient of tobacco, is listed as an addictive substance by the US authorities.

　　Although the health risks of smoking are culmulative, giving up can yield health benefits regardless of the age of the patient, or the length of time they have been smoking.

　　Future impact

　　By 20xx, the WHO expects the worldwide death toll to reach 10 million, causing 17.7% of all deaths in developed countries.

　　There are believed to be 1.1 billion smokers in the world, 800 million of them in developing countries.

　　初中英語教學(xué)是要重視培養(yǎng)興趣，但單靠唱歌游戲不能培養(yǎng)學(xué)生持久的興趣。新鮮勁兒一過，孩子們就會厭倦。所以，唱歌游戲應(yīng)該作為初中學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)英語語言知識、技能的一些手段，而不是培養(yǎng)興趣的手段。我們可以采用多種手段幫助學(xué)生在記憶力強的時期多記單詞，多學(xué)習(xí)語言規(guī)則，并盡可能多創(chuàng)造模仿的機會，提高學(xué)生的語音和語調(diào)。在英語學(xué)習(xí)中，聽、說、讀、寫、譯五種能力是可以互補的。真正做到聽說先行，讀寫跟上。光聽說不讀寫，很難收到高效。只靠模仿不培養(yǎng)學(xué)習(xí)能力，也難減輕學(xué)習(xí)負擔(dān)。所以初中學(xué)生還是應(yīng)當認真進行語言學(xué)習(xí)。

　　“不學(xué)習(xí)語言規(guī)則、不掌握相當數(shù)量的詞匯，英語應(yīng)用能力就是空中樓閣”。目前在中學(xué)的低年級的英語教學(xué)中，不要求學(xué)生掌握詞匯，而只要求學(xué)生能根據(jù)提示或圖片說出該單詞，其本質(zhì)無非是要學(xué)生們死記硬背，鸚鵡學(xué)舌。由于學(xué)生們沒有相應(yīng)的讀音規(guī)則訓(xùn)練，不熟悉詞匯的拼寫規(guī)則，單詞的音、形、意三者不能有效的結(jié)合在一起，因而導(dǎo)致了單詞記憶的困難，并成了中學(xué)生學(xué)英語的瓶頸。

　　反思三、中學(xué)英語教師應(yīng)有發(fā)展意識

　　一向以來，人們中學(xué)英語教師的語言知識能力要求不高，認為中學(xué)英語簡單，不需要太好的語言功底，只要有良好的教學(xué)技能就可以了。其實時代在進步，社會在發(fā)展，同樣英語作為人們最廣泛的交際用語之一，更是隨著高科技的迅猛發(fā)展而日新月異地變化著。如果我們的英語教師故步自封，不求進取，那么不但自己的語言知識很快陳舊落伍，誤人子弟，而且會被時代所淘汰。

　　“Changing English in the changing world”�，F(xiàn)代英語的變化，特別是口語方面的變化可從以下幾個方面體現(xiàn)出來：

　　1、隨著人們生活節(jié)奏的不斷加快，更因為國際互聯(lián)網(wǎng)的形成，人們之間的交際變得越來越簡捷。說話簡單快捷，是現(xiàn)代人生活的一大特征。現(xiàn)代英語在這方面的變化表現(xiàn)為“一字多用”。

　　2、隨著現(xiàn)代科學(xué)技術(shù)的迅猛發(fā)展，現(xiàn)代英語詞匯急劇增加，并且我們發(fā)現(xiàn)，現(xiàn)代英語詞匯有相當一部分是取得新義的舊詞，如，“input”(輸入電子計算機的數(shù)據(jù))，“store”(電子計算機的儲存器)，“drive”(計算機驅(qū)動器)等。

　　3、英國英語和美國英語之間的距離越來越小。也許是美國對世界政治、經(jīng)濟影響日益強大的原因，美國英語的影響也越來越大，特別是對青少年的影響越來越大，他們以使用美語和發(fā)美國音為時髦。

　　4、口語不斷侵入書面語。學(xué)過英語的人都知道，英語有正式、非正式、書面語，口語，方言，俚語之分，然而當今它們之間相互滲透的現(xiàn)象越來越普遍。

　　我們的英語教師不跟上時代的步伐不堅持不斷地學(xué)習(xí)和接受新事物，不了解現(xiàn)代英語發(fā)展的現(xiàn)狀和趨勢，那么，我們所教出來的學(xué)生一旦離開學(xué)校走向社會，他們會發(fā)現(xiàn)他們所學(xué)的英語是多么bookish(書呆子氣)。而教師自己則可能甚至連小學(xué)生們所津津樂道的一些常用語也可能會出現(xiàn)理解性的錯誤。

　　反思四、中學(xué)英語教師應(yīng)有文化意識

　　在中學(xué)英語的教學(xué)中，因為課文的簡單易懂，所含的信息量少的緣故，很多中學(xué)英語教師忽視了文化對語言的影響，而導(dǎo)致了一些語言情景的不真實，和虛假的語言的產(chǎn)生�！　】缥幕�交際意識的培養(yǎng)，是英語教學(xué)的一個重要組成部分。詞匯是文化信息的主要濃縮。對英語詞匯的準確理解，和對語言環(huán)境的認識和創(chuàng)設(shè)和把握，需要對文化的比較深刻的理解。外族文化知識的獲得，主要是通過對該族文化歷史的研究和學(xué)習(xí)，通過對該族語言文學(xué)作品的研讀，通過對該族文化生活習(xí)慣、生活方式的了解。而讀原版英語經(jīng)典著作的學(xué)習(xí)，是達到這三條的捷徑。

　　反思五、中學(xué)英語教師應(yīng)有情感意識

　　從教育心理學(xué)的角度看，學(xué)習(xí)過程中影響學(xué)習(xí)效果的最大因素之一是學(xué)習(xí)者的情感控制。近幾十年來，人們越來越意識到在英語學(xué)習(xí)過程中，學(xué)習(xí)者的情感因素，包括動機和態(tài)度等對英語學(xué)習(xí)的效果乃至成敗起到相當大的作用。如何將素質(zhì)教育理論引入外語教學(xué)是當前外語教學(xué)戰(zhàn)線的一大課題。英語學(xué)習(xí)成功的因素中，除了智力因素外，更重要的是那些非智力因素的作用。

　　英語教師的教學(xué)重點是放在教學(xué)內(nèi)容，教學(xué)大綱和考試形式上呢，還是將教學(xué)注重點轉(zhuǎn)移到學(xué)生的性格、興趣、情緒等方面的培養(yǎng)和控制?這是，現(xiàn)代教育思想轉(zhuǎn)變的重大原則問題。事實證明，認為自己“民主、開放、平靜、友好、體貼、樂于助人、聰明、富于邏輯性和快樂”的人，一般來說，其學(xué)習(xí)英語成功的可能性要大于與上述性格相反或相差極大的學(xué)習(xí)者。另外，在外語學(xué)習(xí)過程中，由于外界因素的影響，學(xué)習(xí)者會出現(xiàn)焦慮沮喪煩躁不安等情況，英語教師作為教學(xué)活動的組織者，應(yīng)注意對外語學(xué)習(xí)者情感因素的培養(yǎng)和控制。尤其是在中學(xué)的低年級階段，英語教師要培養(yǎng)對學(xué)生的親近感。在課堂教學(xué)中英語教師要十分尊重學(xué)生，注意激勵學(xué)生，關(guān)注學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)過程。在當前“減負”工作中，英語教師尤其要注意體察學(xué)生在課堂上的心理感受，親近學(xué)生，使學(xué)生喜愛英語教師和英語課，從而提高英語課堂教學(xué)的效益。

　　The third door is the door to lifelong learning. As new ideas appear all the time, we always need to acquire new knowledge, regardless of our age. Naturally, my aunt herself is the best example. Many of my aunt's contemporaries say that she is amazingly up-to-date for a middle-aged woman. She simply responds,“Age doesn't matter. What matters is your attitude. You may think it's strange that I am still going to college, but I don't think I'm too old to learn.”Yes, she is right. Since the government removed the age limit for college admissions in 20xx, there are already some untraditional students, sitting with us in the same classrooms. Like these people, my aunt is old but she is very young in spirit. With her incredible energy and determination, she embodies both tradition and modernity.

　　The doors open to us also pose challenges. For instance, we are faced with the challenge of a balanced learning, the challenge of preserving our fine tradition while learning from the West, and the challenge of learning continuously while carrying heavy responsibilities to our work and family. So, each door is a test of our courage, ability and judgment, but with the support of my teachers, parents, friends and my aunt, I believe I can meet the challenge head on. When I reach my aunt's age, I can be proud to say that I have walked through dozens of doors and will, in the remainder of my life, walk through many more. Possibly I will go back to college, too.
