Self-confidence, as is approved by research and practice, has an amazinglypowerful influence on the output of people’s activities. Patients who believethat they’ll recover soon generally cures faster than those who think theywon’t. Students with optimistic characters usually provide better performance, even if they work the same hard as others. Although someone may regard suchconclusion as superstitious, it does take place everyday and everywhere. Neuralscientists have discovered that, when a man feels confident, his brain willsecrete some kinds of hormone that boost brain activity and improve theefficiency of his immune system. In contrast, a melancholic brain is suppressedby other chemicals and cannot fully exhibit its potential.
To help building up self-confidence, you can take the following two steps.First, identify your merits and value them. If you constantly compare yourweakness to others’ advantages, you’d only gain frustration rather thanconfidence. Second, track every little progress you’ve made and review themfrequently. You may not possibly become perfectly successful in one day, but ifonly you can see yourself growing gradually, surely you’re on the right way. There’re also other methods making you more confident that depend on yourself tofind out, and they’re all necessary elements to make you more competitive inyour area.

we often hear people say,"never give up."these can be encouraging words and words of determination.a person who believes in them will keep trying to reach your goal no matter how many times he fails.in my opinion, the quality of determination to succeed is an important one to have.therefore,i believe that we。should never give up.
one reason is that if we give up too easily,we will rarely act eve anything.it is not unusual for us to fail in our first attempt at something new,so we should not feel discouraged and should try again.besides,if we always give up when we fail,we will not be able to develop new skills and grow as people.another reason we should never give up is that we can learn from our mistakes only if we make anew effort.if we do not try again, the lesson we have learned is wasted.finally,we should never give up because as we work to reach our goals,we develop confidence, and this confidence can help us succee din other areas of our lives.if we never challenge ourselves,we will begin to doubt our abilities.
in short,it is important that we do not give up when working for our goals.whether we succeed in the end or not,we will learn something, and what we learn will help us to become better, more confident people.furthermore,if we give up,we have non chance of attaining our goals, but if we keep trying, there is always achance that we will succeed one day.

One windy spring day, I observed young people having fun using the wind tofly their kites。 Multicolored creations of varying shapes and sizes filled theskies like beautiful birds darting and dancing。 As the strong winds gustedagainst the kites, a string kept them in check。
Instead of blowing away with the wind, they arose against it to achievegreat heights。 They shook and pulled, but the restraining string and thecumbersome tail kept them in tow, facing upward and against the wind。 As thekites struggled and trembled against the string, they seemed to say, “Let me go!Let me go! I want to be free!” They soared beautifully even as they fought therestriction of the string。 Finally, one of the kites succeeded in breakingloose。 “Free at last,” it seemed to say。 “Free to fly with the wind!
Yet freedom from restraint simply put it at the mercy of an unsympatheticbreeze。 It fluttered ungracefully to the ground and landed in a tangled mass ofweeds and string against a dead bush。 “Free at last” free to lie powerless inthe dirt, to be blown helplessly along the ground, and to lodge lifeless againstthe first obstruction。
How much like kites we sometimes are。 The Heaven gives us adversity andrestrictions, rules to follow from which we can grow and gain strength。Restraint is a necessary counterpart to the winds of opposition。 Some of us tugat the rules so hard that we never soar to reach the heights we might haveobtained。 We keep part of the mandment and never rise high enough to get ourtails off the ground。
Let us each rise to the great heights, recognizing that some of therestraints that we may chafe under are actually the steadying force that helpsus ascend and achieve。

We Are The World ,We Are The Future
Someone said “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”. I dont know who wrote these words, but Ive always liked them as a reminder that the future can be anything we want it to be. We are all in the position of the farmers. If we plant a good seed ,we reap a good harvest. If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.
We are young. “How to spend the youth?” It is a meaningful question. To answer it, first I have to ask “what do you understand by the word youth?” Youth is not a time of life, its a state of mind. Its not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips or supple knees. Its the matter of the will. Its the freshness of the deep spring of life.
Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite , for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20 . Nobody grows old merely by a number of years . We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years wrinkle the skin , but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul . Worry , fear , self –distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust .
Whether 60 of 16 , there is in every human being s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of whats next and the joy of the game of living . In the center of your heart and my heart theres a wireless station : so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long as you are young .
Apoet said “To see a world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour. Several days ago, I had a chance to listen to a lecture. I learnt a lot there. Id like to share it with all of you. Lets show our right palms. We can see three lines that show how our love.career and life is. I have a short line of life. What about yours? I wondered whether we could see our future in this way. Well, lets make a fist. Where is our future? Where is our love, career, and life? Tell me.Yeah, it is in our hands. It is held in ourselves.
We all want the future to be better than the past. But the future can go better itself. Dont cry because it is over, smile because it happened. From the past, weve learnt that the life is tough, but we are tougher. Weve learnt that we cant choose how we feel, but we can choose what about it. Failure doesnt mean you dont have it, it does mean you should do it in a different way. Failure doesnt mean you should give up, it does mean you must try harder.
As what I said at the beginning, “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”. The past has gone. Nothing we do will change it. But the future is in front of us. Believe that what we give to the world, the world will give to us. And from today on, lets be the owners of ourselves, and speak out “We are the world, we are the future.”

Whether 60 of 26 , there is in every human being ?s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what?s next and the joy of the game of living . In the center of your heart and my heart there?s a wireless station : so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long as you are young .
When the aerials are down , and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old ,even at 20 , but as long as your aerials are up ,to catch waves of optimism , there is hope you may die young at 80.

The future can be anything we want to make
I do not know who wrote those words, but I have always liked them as areminder that the future can be anything we want to make it.
We can take the mysterious, hazy future and carve out of it anything thatwe can imagine, just like a sculptor carves a statue from a shapeless stone.
We are all in the position of the farmer. If we plant a good seed, we reapa good harvest. If our seed is poor and full of weeds, we reap a useless crop.If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.
I want the future to be better than the past. I don’t want it contaminatedby the mistakes and errors with which history is filled. We should all beconcerned about the future because that is where we will spend the reminder ofour lives.
The past is gone and static. Nothing we can do will change it. The futureis before us and dynamic. Everything we do will effect it.
Each day will brings with it new frontiers, in our homes and in ourbusinesses, if we will only recognize them. We are just at the beginning of theprogress in every field of human endeavor.

What would you do if you failed? Many people may choose to give up.However, the surest way to success is to keep your direction and stick to yourgoal.
On your way to success, you must keep your direction. It is just like alamp, guiding you in darkness and helping you overcome obstacles on your way.Otherwise, you will easily get lost or hesitate to go ahead.
Direction means objectives. You can get nowhere without an objective inlife.
You can try to write your objective on paper and make some plans to achieveit. In this way, you will know how to arrange your time and to spend your timeproperly. And you should also have a belief that you are sure to succeed as longas you keep your direction all the time.

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me is more important than facts.
It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what the other people think, say,or do. It is more important than the appearance, the giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company,a church ,a home.
The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day, regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.
We cannot change our past.We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.We cannot change the inevitable.
The only thing we can do is play on the one stage we have. And that is our attitudes. I am convinced that life is ten percent what happens to me ,and ninety percent how I react to it.And so it is with you.
We are in charge of our attitudes.

good evening , ladies and gentlemen . i am joy and glad to give you a speech about stress , yes , just the topic you see on the screen.
psychologist tell us that stress is a state of worry caused by the problem of living , such as too much work or study , heavy responsibilities , and quickened pace of life .
statistics show that stress comes from every detail in our life . financial problems , poor health , being laid off may be the stress that most adults now suffering . as students in the university , we are also under our special stress . while study , having to take various tests and submit a project against a deadline may put a great pressure on us . and the things make us felt stressed may be our parents’s greater expectations on us than we could reach . later , when we are likely to graduate , some other problems will also annoy us . i think we will worry a lot about our ability to compete in the job market and how we can best use what we’ve learned at college in our future job .
my brother-in-law opened the bottom drawer of my sisters bureau and lifted out a tissue-wrapped package. this, he said, is not a slip. this is lingerie. he discarded the tissue and handed me the slip.
it was exquisite, silk, handmade and trimmed with a cobweb of lace. the price tag with an astronomical figure on it was still attached.
jan bought this the first time we went to new york, at least 8 or 9 years ago. she never wore it. she was saving it for a special occasion.
well, i guess this is the occasion.
he took the slip from me and put it on the bed, with the other clothes we were taking to the mortician. his hands lingered on the soft material for a moment, then he slammed the drawer shut and turned to me, dont ever save anything for a special occasion. every day you re alive is a special occasion.
i remembered those words through the funeral and the days that followed when i helped him and my niece attend to all the sad chores that follow an unexpected death. i thought about them on the plane returning to california from the midwestern town where my sisters family lives. i thought about all the things that she hadnt seen or heard or done. i thought about the things that she had done without realizing that they were special.
im still thinking about his words, and theyve changed the weeds in the garden. im spending more time with my family and friends and less time in committee meetings. whenever possible, life should be a pattern of experience to savour, not endure. im trying to recognize these moment now and cherish them.
im not saving anything; we use our good china and crystal for every special. event such as losing a pound, getting the sink unstopped, the first camellia blossom… i wear my good blazer to the market if i feel like it. my theory is if i look prosperous, i can shell out $28. 49 for one small bag of groceries without wincing. im not saving my good perfume for special parties s; clerks in hardware stores and tellers in banks have noses that function as well as my party going friends.
someday and one of these days are losing their grip on my vocabulary. if its worth seeing or hearing or doing, i want to see and hear and do it now. im not sure what my sister wouldve done had she know that she wouldnt be here for the tomorrow we all take for granted.
i think she would have called family members and a few close friends. she might have called a few former friends to apologize, and mend fences for past squabbles. i like to think she would have gone out for a chinese dinner, her favorite food. im guessing. ill never know.
its those little things left undone that would make me angry if i knew that my hours were limited. angry because i put off seeing good friends whom i was going to get in touch with someday. angry because i hadnt written certain letters that i intended to write one of these days. angry and sorry that i didnt tell my husband and daughter often enough how much i truly love them.
im trying very hard not to put off, hold back, or save anything that would add laughter and luster to our lives. and every morning when i open my eyes, i tell myself that every day, every minute, every breath truly, is... a gift from god.
ladies and gentlemen , good afternoon! i’m very glad to stand here and give you a short speech. today my topic is “youth”. i hope you will like it , and found the importance in your youth so that more cherish it.
first i want to ask you some questions:

Good afternoon, ladies and issue of the Yellow River hasbecome the biggest concern of members of the Chinese peoples PoliticalConsultative childhood, in fact, is closely associated with father is an engineering geologist, and he used to take me with him onhis trips to the hydropower stations on the river.I enjoyed those trips, especially the trip to Longyang Xia ough ten years have passedsince my visit, I can still recall the scenery; I can still recall the water Isaw at the was pure, clean and blue, not like the water I saw inthe middle reaches of the river, which had turned brown and muddy after passingthrough the Loess Plateau.
Once during our stay at the power station, we were caught in when rain stopped, I could see trickles of water rolling downmountain slopes and flowing into the carried little mud or sand, because at that time, trees and grass still grew around the theyprotected the Longyang Xia I was struck by the beauty of nature, and asa child I wanted to stay there and to grow up with our Yellow River.
Li Bai, the Tang Dynasty poet, said praises to the flowing water in theYellow saw it as coming down from heaven and nurturing the peoplealong her way to the ver, in 1997,for 330days, not a single drop ofwater from the Yellow River went into the droughts are not the onlypunishment by nature.A friend of my father's, a university professor, is doingresearch on the Yellow rding to this professor, the Yellow River willsoon change its course if we allow this situation to use there isno longer enough water to carry away the silt and mud in the lower reaches ofthe river and the riverbed rises higher and higher each year.
We have taken too much from nature, but given back too little in this is the cost of the unbalanced we had taken care of thevegetation in the upper and middle reaches of the Yellow River, we would stillexperience the river as Li Bai described it.
While the developed countries are consuming proportionally more naturalresources than the rest of the world, they've also taken some good measures inprotecting as a developing country, China can learn from them inthis aspect.
Last year, when I was visiting Australia with a group of Chinese studentswho had won prizes in an English Skills Test, our Australian hosts invited us tojoin them for a horse-ride in the r two hours on horseback, wereached a valley, where there was a most beautiful meadow, with flowers in allcolors dotted on a huge blanket of I began to praise the beauty ofnature, my friends told me that in this valley, there used to be a big mine andthe wastewater from the mine turned everything the mine wasabandoned, people made great efforts to restore the green alsoused the latest biological technology choosing the best grass seeds suitable forthe local the beautiful meadow is a result of commitment, hard work, and new technology.
What happened to this valley in Australia should also happen to our YellowRiver and, in fact, it is happening.I have seen farmers planting trees onmountains along the Yellow River.I have seen them climb the mountain tops withseedlings on their shoulders because they had no machinery.I have seen thempour on trees the water they had carried up in buckets from miles down e farmers are quietly nourishing our Yellow River, just as the riverhas nourished them.
And these farmers, men and women I don't know, gave me the confidence thatwe and our Yellow River will grow together, and someday in the future, we willbe able to drink the clean water from our Yellow River again, because she is ourdearest mother.
Thank you.

A PIGEON, oppressed by excessive thirst, saw a goblet of water painted on asignboard. Not supposing it to be only a picture, she flew towards it with aloud whir and unwittingly dashed against the signboard, jarring herselfterribly. Having broken her wings by the blow, she fell to the ground, and wascaught by one of the bystanders.
Zeal should not outrun discretion.

no young man believes he shall ever die. it was a saying of my brother's,and a fine one. there is a feeling of eternity in youth, which makes us amendfor everything. to be young is to be as one of the immortal gods. one half oftime indeed is flown-the other half remains in store for us with all itscountletreasures; for there is no line drawn, and we see no limit to our hopesand wishes. we make the coming age our own-
the vast, the unbounded prospect lies before us.
death. old age. are words without a meaning. that paby us like the idea airwhich we regard not. others may have undergone, or may still be liable tothem-we "bear a charmed life“, which laughs to scorn all such sickly fancies. asin setting out on delightful journey, we strain our eager gaze forward-
bidding the lovely scenes at distance hail!
and see no end to the landscape, new objects presenting themselves as weadvance; so, in the commencement of life, we set no bounds to our inclinations.nor to the unrestricted opportunities of gratifying them. we have as yet foundno obstacle, no disposition to flag; and it seems that we can go on so forever.we look round in a new world, full of life, and motion, and ceaseleprogress; andfeel in ourselves all the vigor and spirit to keep pace with it, and do notforesee from any present symptoms how we shall be left behind in the naturalcourse of things, decline into old age, and drop into the grave. it is thesimplicity, and as it were abstractedneof our feelings in youth, that (so tospeak) identifies us with nature, and (our experience being slight and ourpassions strong) deludes us into a belief of being immortal like it. ourshort-lives connection with existence we fondly flatter ourselves, is anindissoluble and lasting union-a honeymoon that knows neither coldness, jar, norseparation. as infants smile and sleep, we are rocked in the cradle of ourwayward fancies, and lulled into security by the roar of the universe aroundus0we quaff the cup of life with eager haste without draining it, instead ofwhich it only overflows the more-objects prearound us, filling the mind withtheir magnitude and with the strong of desires that wait upon them, so that wehave no room for the thoughts of death.

We have only one earth. But now,the environment becomes worse and worse.Asyou know, there's no enough clean water for people. So many of them lose theirlives because of water. In a lot of countries, people have to cut trees forliving. So there's nothing to keep water from running away. Also we have pollutedthe land, the river and the air. Some people may say:we are the masters ofnature. Now the "master" seems to be confronted with problems that are far beyondhis control.
the holes of the ozone layer make the earth less suitable to live for somecreatures including human beings.Facing all the disasters made by ourselves, wehave the responsibility to deal with the problem.
we must do something useful to protect our environment. We can plant treesand take good care of them.We can save the water and ask our parents to do so.Wecan't throw any litter onto the ground and we should collect them forrecycling. If we take good care of our earth today,it will be more beautifultomorrow.
