My Definition of Success
“Once upon a time， there was a king who had a daughter as beautiful as a blooming rose. To all the suitors who came to the king's palace to ask for the hand of the princess, the old king assigned three tasks to be accomplished, each next to impossible. One day, into the king's palace came a handsome young prince..." Well, you know the rest. The three tasks may be different in different versions, but the main plot is always the same, with the prince claiming the princess's hand triumphantly.
And the ending is always the same, finishing with the line "And they live happily every after."
Why aren't we tired of something so fanciful, so unrealistic, and, I would say, so unimaginative? How can a story like that endure generations of repetition`? Because, I think, it is a typical success story. It is highly philosophical and symbolic. By implication, we see a 4-step definition of success: 1 ) a goal to be set. as represented by the beautiful princess; 2 ) challenges to be met, as represented by the three tasks; 3 ) the process of surmounting difficulties, as represented by the ordeals the youth goes through; and 4 ) the reward of success, as represented by the happy marriage.
The story not only caters to everyone's inward yearning for success, but also emphasizes the inseparability of the process and the result. The reward of success will be much amplified if the path leading towards it is treacherous, and vice versa. If a person inherits his father's millions and leads an easy life, he is not a successful person even in material terms, because there are no difficulties involved in his achieving affluence. The term "success", to be sure. will not sit still for easy definition. But as I understand it, the true meaning of success entails a combination of both the process and the satisfactory result of an endeavor. To clarify my view, let me give another analogy.
If we changed the rules of football, greatly enlarged the goal and sent away David Seaman or any other goal keeper, so that another David, namely David Beckham, could score easily, then scoring would not give him the thrill of accomplishment and the joy that it brings. If we further changed the rules by not allowing Arsenal's defenders to defend, so that Beckham needed only to lift a finger, actually a toe, to score, then there would be no game at all, because the meaning of winning would have disappeared. In accepting the challenge, in surmounting the difficulties and in enduring the hardship, success acquires its value. The sense of attainment varies in proportion to the degree of difficulties on overcomes.
The concept of success is not constant but relative because the nature of difficulty is also relative. Something you do effortlessly might pose a great difficulty for a handicapped person. In acquiring the ability to do the same as you can, he or she achieve success. That's why we greatly admire Stephen Hawking, because, though confined to a wheel chair, he has contributed greatly to the field of science.
I myself, a rather shy person by nature who easily suffer from stage fright, had to pluck up great courage to take part in a speech contest like this. I could have stayed away and had an easy time of it by not entering the university level contest.But I chose to accept the challenge and to face the difficulties. Now here I am. If I come out first, it will be a great success for me. If I come out last-I hope this will not be the case-but if I come out last, I will not call my attempt a failure, but will also celebrate it as a true success, because part of my goal is my own character training-to do more assertive, to be brave in face of difficulties. For me, it is a meaningful step forward, small as it is, in the long journey toward the final success in my life, because I have truly gained by participating.
Let us return to our handsome young prince and the 4-step definition of success. You my have noticed that the usual worldly criteria of wealth, position and fame were not mentioned as part of the story, but rather, it emphasized the process of overcoming difficulties. The ancient wisdom had already defined the meaning of success, and this is my definition, too.

I don't think so. printed books won't be abandoned in such a short time. I admit that new technology is developing fast. Many advanced electronic products are gradually take the place of traditional tools. Just like in university, teachers like to use multimedia in class for it is quite convenient and efficient. However, for our student, it is not realistic to study completely by electronic products.
There are many things need to recorded on books. Books are something meaningful and practical. I should say, in our country, printed books wouldn't be abandoned within 20 years at least for two reasons. Firstly, books are classical container of knowledge. They accompany human to advance. A student without books could be someway ridiculous. Secondly, our country haven't developed so strong to make every student study by computer or other forms of electronic tools. And even after 20 years, the possibility is also very small. I also think it is unnecessary because books are cheap but useful and still meaningful.

想學(xué)好英語，首先要培養(yǎng)對(duì)英語的興趣。“興趣是最好的老師”,興趣是學(xué)習(xí)英語的巨大動(dòng)力，有了興趣，學(xué)習(xí)就會(huì)事半功倍。而興趣不是與生俱來的，需要培養(yǎng)。有的同學(xué)說：“我一看到英語就頭疼，怎么能培養(yǎng)對(duì)英語的興趣呢？”還有的同學(xué)說：“英語單詞我今天記了明天忘，我太笨了，唉，我算沒治了�！边@都是缺乏信心的表現(xiàn)。初學(xué)英語時(shí)，沒有掌握正確的學(xué)習(xí)方法，沒有樹立必勝的信心，缺乏了克服困難的勇氣，稍遇失敗，就會(huì)向困難低頭，學(xué)習(xí)積極性也逐漸降低，自然也就不會(huì)取得好成績。但是，只要在老師的幫助下，認(rèn)識(shí)到學(xué)英語的'必要性，用正確的態(tài)度對(duì)待英語學(xué)習(xí)，用科學(xué)的方法指導(dǎo)學(xué)習(xí)，時(shí)間長了，懂得多了，就有了興趣，學(xué)習(xí)起來就有了動(dòng)力和欲望。

二、“手到”。學(xué)英語，一定要做課堂筆記。因?yàn)槿说挠洃浟κ怯邢薜�，人不可能都過目不忘，記憶本身就是不斷與遺忘作斗爭(zhēng)的過程。常言說，“好記憶不如爛筆頭”。老師講的知識(shí)可能在課堂上記住了，可是過了一段時(shí)間，就會(huì)忘記，所以，做好筆記很有必要。英語知識(shí)也是一點(diǎn)點(diǎn)積累起來的，學(xué)到的每一個(gè)單詞、詞組以及句型結(jié)構(gòu)，都記在筆記本上，甚至是書空白處或字里行間，這對(duì)以后的復(fù)習(xí)鞏固都是非常方便的。
三、“耳到”。在課堂上，認(rèn)真聽講是十分必要的，不但要專心聽老師對(duì)知識(shí)的講解，而且要認(rèn)真聽老師說英語的語音、語調(diào)、重音、連讀、失去爆破、斷句等發(fā)音要領(lǐng)，以便培養(yǎng)自己純正地道的英語口語。聽見聽懂老師傳授的每一個(gè)知識(shí)點(diǎn)，在頭腦里形成反饋以幫助記憶；理解領(lǐng)會(huì)老師提出的問題，以便迅速作答，對(duì)比同學(xué)對(duì)問題的回答，以加深對(duì)問題的理解而取別人之長補(bǔ)自己之短。
四、“眼到”。在認(rèn)真聽講的同時(shí)，還要雙眼緊隨老師觀察老師的動(dòng)作、口形、表情、板書、繪圖、教具展示等。大腦里形成的視覺信息和聽覺信息相結(jié)合，印象就會(huì)更加深刻。

While some hold the opinion that it is a matter of the government or it is the business of some big enterprises or companies, and it has nothing to do with us. However, to achieve the aim of low carbon economy, the efforts of governments or enterprises is far from enough. Low carbon economy can’t go further without low carbon life styles. They are going side by side with each other.
So what’s low carbon life style?
Let’s look back on our daily life. Every morning as soon as you open your eyes, are you used to turn on the lights immediately when the room is bright enough as long as you draw the window curtains apart? Is that your habit that when you are brushing your teeth you leave the water tap running on? Are you accustomed to setting the temperature of the air conditioner in your office below 26 degrees Celsius? I go the the gym almost everyday, but I never seem to lose weight.” But every body at the gym knows why, because they see this guy there doing everything except the main thing exercise!

Luckily, the fatter man saved himself. The fatter mat was very disappointed, and when they got together again, he said to the thinner man, "You are not my real friend. I would like to tell you something about myself, my true feel-ings. When I was in Senior One, I had great difficulty in learning science subjects. I was unable to understand the teacher and 1 could not do the exercises or the homework. I believed that I was stupid and could not learn anything. The sky was gray and the grass was yellow those days. Everything was a mess in my brain. My classmate, a good student, whom I only considered as one of the classmates before, came to me with a smile. She told me that if I needed help, she would like to help me. As she was also very busy with her studies,I asked myself, "Could she help me? "Sev-eral days later, I knew the answer. Yes, she could. She did as much as she could. She made time every day to help me solve the problems and showed me many good ways to study science. Her patience and earnest nature touched me deeply.
