good morning ladies and gentlemen. today i’m very glad to be here with youto share my stories and opinions about reading. i love reading from the bottomof my heart. and i do learn a lot from books. i know the wonderful stories ofgreat heroes in history, secrets of nature, mysteries of ufo and our universe.to me , books are like a faithful friend, always around me , giving me enjoymentand wisdom. i remember when i was in primary school, ten or eleven years old, myfather borrowed some books from the library in his school. those were among thegreatest works of the world, including abrabian nights、the legend ofdeification, journey to the west, and the romance of the three kingdoms. thesebooks were all written in
ancient chinese characters but i tried to read the heavy books and weredeeply attracted. from then on, i spared every minute to read whatever i couldget. whenever i got a new book, i kept reading until i finished it despite timeand place. i read books even in class or just a few minutes before the exams. inmy mind, there is always an unforgettable scene: lying in bed, nervous butexcited, my friend and i read a book together in the weak light of a flashlight, with a quilt on us, in order not to be blamed by parents. all my classmatesthought i was crazy and gave me a nickname “bookworm”. so you can understand whyi got my eyes shortsighted.
till now, i still like reading as i used to. and i’m very
pleased to see that my ten-year-old son loves reading just like me. i havebought him many books. whenever you come into my home, you can find books inevery corner. but the place where my son and i enjoy reading most is in thetoilet. so it often happens in the morning: one is in the toilet readingsomething comfortably, while another
walking outside , shouting. for my age, i like to read magazines or shortstories to get relaxation as well as inspiration.
today we live in a world of prosperity. never before have we
faced so many temptation from the outside world. never before have we hadso many chances to enjoy our lives. we drive rather than walking; we go onlineto chat with people we’ve never met before instead of talking to friends aroundus. but there’s always something that cannot be replaced and forgotten., such asbooks. so i will allow myself to continue the journey in the ocean of booksuntil the very end of my life.
finally, i’d like to end my speech with a great philosopher, writer andthinker, francis bacon’s famous saying: reading makes a full man. studies servefor delight, for ornament, and for ability. thank you very much.
What is a great book? There is no end to the making of books. Nor doesthere seem to be any end to the making lists of great books. There has always bemore books than one could read. You can be happy at the fact that the number ofthat is relatively small.
However, today, people usually leave it in the library. According to thenational reading survey issued by The China Academy of Press and Publication, in20__, only 55% Chinese aged between18 and 70 book read books .That is to say, there are more than forty percent of the people seldom read in China.
It is a great challenge to literature. As a educated student, have youinsist on reading great books. In order to change the situation ,we must takeactions to read great books.
In Adler’s essay of What is A Great Book, he explain why we should readgreat books. I conclude it as follows.
First, great books are the most readable. They will not let you down ,if youread them well. The have more ideas per page than most books in the theirentirety. This is why you can read a great book over and over again and neverexhaust it contents.
Second ,great books are always contemporary,in contrast to the books wecalled contemporary, because they are currently popular ,last for a year ortow,or ten at most. You may probably can not recall the names of many earlierbest sellers, and you may probably would not be interest in reading them. But thegreat are never out modeled by the movement of thought or the shifting winds ofopinion .
Third ,great books are the most instructive. This follows the fact thatthey are original communications. They contain what cannot be found in otherbooks. Whether you ultimately agree or disagree what they say. They are theprimary teachers of mankind. They have made basic contribution to human right.
Just giving you the reason is not enough, I will give you some methods torealize you reading dream.
Firstly, you can begin with a interesting novel. You will be attracted bythe figures, the plots .Than ,after reading a lot of books ,you may be get into ahabit of reading. So,you can contact with some complex books, such as philosophy, arts and so on. You will be shocked at the new world.
There are countless great books in our library, you must make greatadvantage of it. Of course ,it is a better choice to buy great books. Collectingbooks is a enjoyable thing,at least for me. So,reading great books. The newworld is coming.

Speaking of reading, many people are excited because reading brings themboth knowledge and entertainment。 By reading, we can learn lots of informationand know our history。 But for some people, reading is not their priority。 Theywill choose to watch movies to have fun。 However, I think people can benefit alot by reading。
First of all, reading can let us know what have happened in history。 Sincehistory is recorded in books, if we read books, then we can not only what havehappened in history but also we can better understand the great figures of theage。
Secondly, reading can enrich our knowledge。 By reading, we can knowdifferent kinds of things, how things happen and how to avoid bad things fromhappening。 Books record a wide range of things about life。 Through reading, wecan know various aspects of life。
Thirdly, reading teaches us skills。 There are so many books about how tolearn a certain language, how to get a good job, how to bee popular in yourcircle, how to cook and so on。 Thus, these kinds of books can make us moreskillful if we do a certain thing。
All in all, we can find lots of benefits through reading。

Which Is More Important: Knowledge from Books or
Knowledge from Experience
As we know, most knowledge we have comes from two sources: the books orpersonal experience in our daily life. Each one has its advantage. Maybe somepeople think that book knowledge is more important than experience knowledge. However, I am strongly against their opinion. I consider that experience is moreuseful.
Firstly, practical experience can help us find jobs successful. There aretwo kinds of people: experienced employees and college graduates, if you are amanager, which one do you prefer? There is no doubt that you will choose theexperienced employees. Because they have more practical knowledge, theyunderstand what their companies needs and how to make profit for theircompanies. Some college graduates have learned much book knowledge, but theycan’t take advantage of these theories effectively. Therefore, many companiesare not willing to employ graduates. This phenomenon tells us experience is moreimportant for us to find good jobs.
Secondly, experience can give us more impressed knowledge. It’s said thatone learn by doing, if you want to make advances, it’s necessary to practice. Moreover, we learn how to get along with others or how to have self-respect fromexperience. We feel happy and sorrow directly from experience. The preciousknowledge absolutely can’t get from books.
Thirdly, our country’s development depends on innovation, which comes fromexperimentation. Comparing Chinese education system with American’s, we knowthat Chinese education usually pay more attention to scores students get andneglect their ability of innovation. On the contrary, American educationemphasizes personal practice, that’s the reason why the progress of Americantechnology is so rapid. The contrast reminds us of the importance of experienceknowledge.
Needless to say both learning sources have their own advantages. But in myopinion, experience knowledge is more important, because without practicalexperience, it’s impossible to get a real understanding of book knowledge, andto know how to apply this knowledge to real situations.

Our path in life will not always be smooth. Setbacks can't be avoided. Failing an important exam, break up with boy or girl friend, or refused by a promising company, such setbacks are likely to get us down. Sometimes we fell so frustrated that we even burst into tears.
Drinkin coke is wonderful, despite the undesirble consequent hiccups. It's bitter, sour and peppery, but also sweet. And you'll even feel excited after gulping down a glass. A college experience is part of growing up. We cry, smile, fall in love, get hurt, leave, learn and then we become a better person.
University life is like drinking coke. I'm experiencing it. And I know, I enjoy it!

love English
When I was seven, I started learning English. I played games and sang English songs with other children. Sometimes, I watched English cartoons. It's funny. Then I discovered the beauty of the language, and began my colorful dream in the English world.
I hope I can travel around the world someday. I want to go to America to visit Washington, because my cousin is over there. Of course, I want to go to London too, because England is where English language developed. If I can ride my bike in Cambridge University, I will be very happy.
I hope I can speak English with everyone in the world. Also I'll introduce China to them, such as the Great Wall, and the gardens in Suzhou. I will teaching people of the world about the beautiful language of our country.
I like the English language. To learn English is wonderful. I once wanted to be an English teacher . I also like Chinese literature. When I was really young, I was able to remember lots of poems. I also wanted to be a teacher of Chinese. Now I think that both of my dreams can come true: I will be able to use English to teach foreign friends Chinese and share Chinese culture with them. So that more and more people will be able to get to know the 5000 years' history culture, and the prosperity of our great China.
My future is not a dream. I am confident that it will come true

good afternoon ,ladies and gentlemen!
i’m very honored to stand here and give you a short speech! to begin with ,i want to ask a question .does everybody dream a good dream last night? actually ,today i want to talk about dream with you. of course, what i want to talk is not a dream you have last night, but a dream—— about life.
everyone has dreams about life, different dreams at different life stage, and we need dreams to support us. dreams are like the stars we never reach in the sky,but like most mariners(水手),we can chart our course by them. with the dream,we have a direction, with a direction, we were no longer confused.with the dream, there is hope, with hope, we have the strength to fight.
i have a dream: to be a doctor.,because doctor may relieve the pain of patients. may let the human change the health. at the same time, i believed that, those who help others may be able to obtain joyfully. therefore, i hoped in the near future ,i might be a doctor.
but i know, life is tough, and there are always ups and downs, maybe we fail in the way to our aims, and we may feel depressed ,whenever at this time, the dream in our heart can always comfort us, encourage us ,and support us to move ahead .

my dream
everyone has a dream. i often ask myself. when i was a little boy, i wanted to be a soldier with a gun so that i could defend our motherland.now i am a young boy with a new dream——to be a doctor. i want to be a famous doctor, helping the sick and saving their lives.
i also saw some people who were suffering and dying of ill-nesses. i made up my mind to become a doctor, so that i can help the sick people and cure them of their diseases. china is a develop-ing country. she needs good medicine and good doctors, especially in the countryside and lonely villages.
i want to try my best to help the poor sick people of our country. i want to let them have an opportunity to receive excel-lent treatments for their illnesses without having to pay much or any money.

Cupertino is very famous for Apple Computer. And we are very honor to have Steve Jobs to come here tonight to give us special presentation. Mr. Jobs?
Welcome, Mr Jobs: you have a fan club here..
Thank you. Apple's grown like a weed, and as you know, we've always been in Cupertino. Started in an office par, eventually, got the buildings, we are in now the corner of the ends of 280.and those buildings hold maybe 2600 or 2800 people. But we've got almost 12,000 people in the area. So we're renting buildings - not very good buildings, either at an ever-greater radius from our campus and we're putting people in those. It is clear that we need to build new campus, so we just add space.
That doesn't mean we don't need the one we got, we do need it, but we need another one to augment it. So we've got a plan that let's us stay in Cupertino. And we went out and we bought some land and this land is kind of special, to me. When I was 13, I think, I called up... Hewlett and Packard were my idols. And I called up Bill Hewlett, cause he lived in Palo Alto, and there were no unlisted numbers in the phone book, which gives you a clue to my age. And he picked up the phone and I talked to him and I asked him if he'd give me some spare parts for something I was building called a frequency counter. And he did, but in addition to that he gave me something way more important.
He gave a job that summer. A summer job at Hewlett-Packard, right here (on) in Santa Clara, off 280, the division that built frequency counters. And I was in heaven. Well, right around that exact moment in time, Hewlett and Packard themselves were walking on some property over here in Cupertino, in Pruneridge, and they ended up buying it. And they built their computer systems division there. And as Hewlett - Packard has been shrinking lately, they decided to sell that property and we bought it.
We bought that and we bought some adjacent property that all used to be apricot trees, apricot orchards and we've got about 150 acres. And we should like to put a new campus on that so that we can stay in Cupertino. And we've come up - we've hired some great architects to work with, some of the best in the world, I think. And we've come up with a design that puts 12,000 people in one building.
Think about that, that''s rather odd 12,000 people in a building, in one building. But, we've seen these office parks with lots of building and they get pretty boring pretty fast. So we'd like to do something better than that. And I'd like to take you through what we like to do. So this is supposed to work here. Here we go. Can you see this? So here is we are today, which is on Infinite Loop drive, against the intersection of D' Anza and the 280.
Mr Jobs, yeah, you drawn as print, that's high-tech we've. Use your finger. Just point in the air...
What we've done is we bought this land right here. We try to buy the apartments at the corner but they are not for sale, so we couldn't buy those. And we bought everything else. And the campus we like to build there is one building holds 12,000 people. And it is pretty amazing building. Let me show it to you. It's a little like a spaceship landed, there it is, and it's got this gorgeous courtyard in the middle, but a lot more. So let's take a close look at it. It's a circle.
It's curved all the way around. If you build things, this is not the cheapest way to build something. There is not a straight piece of glass in this building. It's all curved. We've used our experience making retail buildings all over the world now, and we know how to make the biggest pieces of glass in the world for architectural use. We can make it curve all the way around the building. And you can see what it look like. It is pretty cool.
Again, today, about 20% of the space is landscaping, several big asphalt parking lots. So 20% of this is landscape, we want to completely change this. And we want to make 80% of landscape, and the way we're gonna do this is we're gonna put most of the parking underground. So we can have 80% of landscape, and you can see what we've in mind. I mean there is nothing like this in the property now. It's pretty bad. Today there are 3700 trees on the property we'd like to just almost double that. We've hired one of the senior arborists from Stanford actually who is very good with indigenous trees around this area. So we'd like to plant a lot of trees including some apricot orchards. Again you can see what it might be like. This is some of the infrastructure. The main building, we have parking underneath the main building.
That's not enough unfortunately. We have a parking structure here as well. The building's four stories high as is the parking structure. There's nothing high here at all. We want the whole place human scale. It's actually about the same as we have in Cupertino right now.. An energy center. We deal with - people using, sitting at computers all day writing software. And if the power goes out on the grid we get to send everybody home. So we have to have backup power to power the place in the event brownouts and stuff. And I think what we're gonna end up doing is making the energy center our primary source of power. Because we can generate power with Natural Gas and other ways that can be cleaner and cheaper and use the grid as our backup.
We've got an auditorium because we put on presentations. Much like we did yesterday but we have to go to San Francisco to do them. Fitness center and some R&D facilities, these are just things that where we do testing and we need some buildings to test in and there's hardly any people in them. So this is roughly the kind of thing we're thinking about. We think about 12,000 people, I put 13,000 on the slides, just because we may make a little luckier than 12,000. We're up roughly 40% in people V.S. What the site has been used for already and we're increasing space to 3.1 million square feet. So 20% increase in space. The landscaping though increases by 350%, which is nice, trees by 60%. The surface parking goes down by 90%. And so I think the overall feeling of the place is gonna be zillion times better than it is now with all the asphalt. And the building footprint actually goes down by 30%. So, we wanna take the space and in many cases making it smaller. We're putting more of desirable things on the space and that's what we like to do. So just wanna give you a look at it. This is a cafe. We have cafe as our facilities. And this cafe will, you know, feed the better part of the 3,000 people sitting. That's what you need when you 12,000 people in the campus. So that's what we're looking at. I'd love to answer your questions if you have any.

ladies and gentlemen, good morning! i’m very glad to stand here and give you a short speech.
man’s life is a process of growing up, actually i’m standing here is a growth. if a person’s life must constituted by various choices, then i grow up along with these choices. once i hope i can study in a college in future, however that’s passed, as you know i come here, now i wonder what the future holds for me.
My favourite season is spring.
Everything is very lively in the spring. The flowers are blooming, the trees are growing and the grass is turning green. I like lying on the grass and enjoy the sun shine in the park in the spring. We also can fly a kite, have a picnic, go on a trip or climb the mountain, but I don’t like to do those things, because they will make me feel tired. Some people like to go to the countryside, however I don’t think it is a good place to go for a rest. I don’t like the other season, because they are not very warm: summer is too hot, winter is too cold. While autumn is cool, it isn’t very beautiful.
Last year, I went to the Slender West Lake in Yang Zhou. First we took a boat to travel down the lake, we saw the Qiong flowers on the bank, and they were very beautiful. Then we visited the Five Kiosks Bridge, there were five kiosks on the bridge, and every kiosk has a long history. We sit in the kiosk and took some photos. Last we went to the Fishing Platform. Why do people call it ‘Fishing Platform’? Because the emperor called ‘Qian Long’ in Qing Dynasty visited it. We also fished in it. We had a good time in Yang Zhou.
Anyway, my favourite season is spring.
but the first time that i took my book out of my suitcase, the coolest girl in the bunk came up to me and she asked me, “why are you being so mellow?“ -- mellow, of course, being the exact opposite of r-o-w-d-i-e. and then the second time i tried it, the counselor came up to me with a concerned expression on her face and she repeated the point about camp spirit and said we should all work very hard to be outgoing.
and so i put my books away, back in their suitcase, and i put them under my bed, and there they stayed for the rest of the summer. and i felt kind of guilty about this. i felt as if the books needed me somehow, and they were calling out to me and i was forsaking them. but i did forsake them and i didn't open that suitcase again until i was back home with my family at the end of the summer.
now, i tell you this story about summer camp. i could have told you 50 others just like it -- all the times that i got the message that somehow my quiet and introverted style of being was not necessarily the right way to go, that i should be trying to pass as more of an extrovert. and i always sensed deep down that this was wrong and that introverts were pretty excellent just as they were. but for years i denied this intuition, and so i became a wall street lawyer, of all things, instead of the writer that i had always longed to be -- partly because i needed to prove to myself that i could be bold and assertive too. and i was always going off to crowded bars when i really would have preferred to just have a nice dinner with friends. and i made these self-negating choices so reflexively, that i wasn't even aware that i was making them.
now this is what many introverts do, and it's our loss for sure, but it is also our colleagues' loss and our communities' loss. and at the risk of sounding grandiose, it is the world's loss. because when it comes to creativity and to leadership, we need introverts doing what they do best. a third to a half of the population are introverts -- a third to a half. so that's one out of every two or three people you know. so even if you're an extrovert yourself, i'm talking about your coworkers and your spouses and your children and the person sitting next to you right now -- all of them subject to this bias that is pretty deep and real in our society. we all internalize it from a very early age without even having a language for what we're doing.
now to see the bias clearly you need to understand what introversion is. it's different from being shy. shyness is about fear of social judgment. introversion is more about, how do you respond to stimulation, including social stimulation. so extroverts really crave large amounts of stimulation, whereas introverts feel at their most alive and their most switched-on and their most capable when they're in quieter, more low-key environments. not all the time -- these things aren't absolute -- but a lot of the time. so the key then to maximizing our talents is for us all to put ourselves in the zone of stimulation that is right for us.

I feel so happy to have the chance to make a speech. The title of my speech is Protect the Environment, Protect Ourselves. I hope you will like it.
Everybody knows waste pa-pe-r and used coke cans are discarded everywhere. You might have seen plastic bags flying in the sky and getting caught in the trees when the wind blows or maybe you have seen old cans floating in the rivers and polluting the water. Our environment is the place in which we live, but it is being ruined by us.
There is a story about house and trees. It is said that a man’s house was surrounded by a lot of trees. Though the wind was strong, that man could have a good rest under the trees. How comfortable the life was!
One day, that man wanted to enlarge his house, so he cut down all the trees. Then the autumn came without the protection. The strong wind blew the roof of the house into the sky. The whole house was gone with the wind. What a pity!
But that’s the price people have to pay for destroying in the ecology balance. People shouldn’t be short-sighted. Protecting the environment is everyone’s task.
As you know, there are four kinds of pollution. They are air pollution, water pollution, waste pollution and noise pollution. But what can we do to solve the pollution? I think, firstly, we can make cars that don’t pollute the environment. We can ask companies to use modern clean technology.
In some big cities, we can limit the number of cars. Secondly, we can try to use lewater and make sure that we do not pollute the water. We can tell factories that they are not allowed to pour waste water into the lakes and rivers.
Thirdly, we should not throw rubbish in parks and cities. We can pick up rubbish if we see it. We can put more rubbish bins in our parks and cities. Fourthly, we can live far from the noise and make the laws to limit the noise.

Innovation, one we are familiar with the word .In particular, this is an era of
rapid development , the word always hit our eardrums . However , innovation and its rich connotation, is that many people do their assiduous life , it may not be able to fully understand.Friend , do you know innovation ?
Innovation is actually a dream.
Ancient China had a man ,burdened wings made of paper , hesitate to jump as high cliff , hoping to fly like a bird in the clear sky . Jumped in pieces at the moment whether
he could vaguely see the blue sky in the freedom of flying airplanes?
Britain has a writer, works in his lifetime , enjoy fantasy, the hot air balloon , submarine ,telegraph ahead of dozens , or even hundreds of years into our lives.
Verne pen down at the moment ,whether he had previously seen the distant future ? Dreams marked rich imagination , imagination as a source of innovation . Innovative transformation from dream to dream is the root, watered by the dream . Einstein never lost innocence like blowing soap bubbles in the air offerings of the earth, constantly shattered and constantly rising .
Innovation requires suspicion and criticism .Suspected to be the seeds of innovation , critical innovation growth. Errors found in doubt , correct the error in the criticism , innovation to complete.
However, skepticism , criticism of courage, people pay the price too much. The spring of 1543 , people shocked , a person, he actually claimed that the earth revolves around the sun .
God, ah ! Let this person Budehaosi . People wanton laugh ,curse. Finally ,the curse come true , the day after 1978 , in the beautiful Rome Campo de 'Fiori, the religiously defended and developed the center of the sun is high in the doctrine of Bruno tied to the cross. A torch toward him, and sent waves smell of burnt flesh . The smell of death in the wandering . Suddenly, a voice from that distorted body burst out : "Fire does not make me conquer the future of the world will know me , and know my worth ."
Yes, the fights did not conquer
him, and that the flames of anger , and that the destruction of the flame , only
to hang in the pseudo- truth face mask burning. Filled in the
Campo de 'Fiori reluctant to disperse the ashes , it has to tell us: innovation
, marching with his life proved suspicion and criticism , will eventually break
the traditional shackles and have eternal life.
Innovation requires profound .
We all know that in the bath
Archimedes discovered the law of buoyancy , the achievements of science in the
history of a brother's wife. But we still
remember Cao Chong said the elephant story ? Lovely children do not consciously use the law of
buoyancy . However, the latter only as a
bedtime story being circulated in the children's pillow , the former has given
birth to one of the basic principles of physics .
Sometimes, innovation is not
difficult , can not say what time the spark of an idea flashed , innovation came
to hand. Sparks can not last long , but
innovation requires eternity. So innovation requires deep
thinking , the pursuit of the essence of things, require us to dig further it
has a sense of innovation .
However, mining is not the most difficult , the most difficult is that conscious generation. You must swam , played some water, you will feel the pressure over the water , but you can say that you can create buoyancy do ? Even if you say , think of water as it came to be called ? I'm afraid not , right ? Is so many things in life , in your experiences, had to touch the edge of innovation , yet we do not have that concept , consciously innovative complete.
As college students, our knowledge is still poor , maybe we can not have a great number of specific innovations.
But we must nurture our sense of innovation . It contains many elements of consciousness .
First, we must learn to dream , learn not reality clogging our innocence, from time to time to make a childhood dream to do , think about Mars fly romantic , think about the beauty of living in outer space . Do not just stare at the villa , sports car, doing physical slaves. Then, let us learn to doubt and criticism . Do not intimidated by the teacher that majestic face , do not think that all printed in lead type stuff is the truth. Kundera said: " a thinking human beings , God laughs ." Believe in yourself, doubts persist , the courage to criticize , fear of authority , the hero character . Again, let us look deep , steady light, it may look youthful rhythm depressed ,thinking something more to study some knowledge , do not have a strange idea, anunheard of discovery to pretend happy, but to practice Shique helpless. Finally, and most important , is to develop their own sense of innovation, especially for professionals in the sensitivity of new things . Roentgen because one is a photographic negatives and realized the existence of X-rays , and ultimately won the first Nobel Prize , Newton as a falling apple and discovered gravity . They professional
acumen is that we really want to master in learning hand knowledge.Recognizing innovation . "Recognize " is a perception, understand the process of representation ; and " knowledge" is an understanding of the process of exploring its essential meaning . Recognizing innovation, we not only want to"recognize ", but it is important to " know ."

Environmental problems are becoming more and more serious all over the world. For example, cars have made the air unhealthy for people to breathe and poisonous gas is given off by factories. Trees on the hills have been cut down and waste water is being poured continuously into rivers. Furthermore, wherever we go today, we can find rubbish carelessly disposed. Pollution is, in fact, threatening our existence.
The earth is our home and we have the duty to take care of it for ourselves and for our later generations. Fortunately, more and more people have realized these problems. Measures have been taken to cope with these problems by the government. Laws have been passed to stop pollution. I hope the problem will be solved in the near future and our home will become better and better.

they are very friendly and peaceful. they never attack people. instead, they have saved many people in danger in the past years. how helpful they are!
can you guess its name now? yes, you are right. they are dolphins.
however, unluckily, the number of dolphins is getting smaller and smaller. because of water pollution, there is less and less space for dolphins. many people make money by hunting dolphins. if we don’t protect them, maybe we’ll lose our good friends one day. as a student, i hope more and more people should protect dolphins.

Someone said “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”. I don’t know who wrote these words, but I’ve always liked them as a reminder that the future can be anything we want it to be. We are all in the position of the farmers. If we plant a good seed,we reap a good harvest. If we plant nothing at all,we harvest nothing at all.
We are young. “How to spend the youth?” It is a meaningful question. To answer it,first I have to ask “what do you understand by the word youth?” Youth is not a time of life,it’s a state of mind. It’s not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips or supple knees. It’s the matter of the will. It’s the freshness of the deep spring of life.
Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite, for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20 . Nobody grows old merely by a number of years . We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul . Worry, fear, self –distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust .
Whether 60 of 16,there is in every human being ‘s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what’s next and the joy of the game of living . In the center of your heart and my heart there’s a wireless station:so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite,so long as you are young .
A poet said “To see a world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour. Several days ago,I had a chance to listen to a lecture. I learnt a lot there. I’d like to share it with all of you. Let’s show our right palms. We can see three lines that show how our love.career and life is. I have a short line of life. What about yours?I wondered whether we could see our future in this way. Well, let’s make a fist. Where is our future?Where is our love, career, and life?Tell me.Yeah,it is in our hands. It is held in ourselves.
We all want the future to be better than the past. But the future can go better itself. Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened. From the past,we’ve learnt that the life is tough, but we are tougher. We’ve learnt that we can’t choose how we feel, but we can choose what about it. Failure doesn’t mean you don’t have it,it does mean you should do it in a different way. Failure doesn’t mean you should give up,it does mean you must try harder.
As what I said at the beginning,“we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”. The past has gone. Nothing we do will change it. But the future is in front of us. Believe that what we give to the world, the world will give to us. And from today on,let’s be the owners of ourselves, and speak out “We are the world,we are the future.”

Good afternoon, my dear friends.
One day in 1819, 3,000 miles off the coast of Chile, in one of the most remote regions of the Pacific Ocean, 20 American sailors watched their ship flood with seawater.
They'd been struck by a sperm whale, which had ripped a catastrophic hole in the ship's hull. As their ship began to sink beneath the swells, the men huddled together in three small whaleboats.
These men were 10,000 miles from home, more than 1,000 miles from the nearest scrap of land. In their small boats, they carried only rudimentary navigational equipment and limited supplies of food and water.
These were the men of the whaleship Essex, whose story would later inspire parts of “Moby Dick.”
Even in today's world, their situation would be really dire, but think about how much worse it would have been then.
No one on land had any idea that anything had gone wrong. No search party was coming to look for these men. So most of us have never experienced a situation as frightening as the one in which these sailors found themselves, but we all know what it's like to be afraid.
We know how fear feels, but I'm not sure we spend enough time thinking about what our fears mean.
As we grow up, we're often encouraged to think of fear as a weakness, just another childish thing to discard like baby teeth or roller skates.
And I think it's no accident that we think this way. Neuroscientists have actually shown that human beings are hard'wired to be optimists.
So maybe that's why we think of fear, sometimes, as a danger in and of itself. “Don't worry,” we like to say to one another. “Don't panic.” In English, fear is something we conquer. It's something we fight.
It's something we overcome. But what if we looked at fear in a fresh way? What if we thought of fear as an amazing act of the imagination, something that can be as profound and insightful as storytelling itself?
It's easiest to see this link between fear and the imagination in young children, whose fears are often extraordinarily vivid.
When I was a child, I lived in California, which is, you know, mostly a very nice place to live, but for me as a child, California could also be a little scary.
I remember how frightening it was to see the chandelier that hung above our dining table swing back and forth during every minor earthquake, and I sometimes couldn't sleep at night, terrified that the Big One might strike while we were sleeping.
And what we say about kids who have fears like that is that they have a vivid imagination. But at a certain point, most of us learn to leave these kinds of visions behind and grow up.
We learn that there are no monsters hiding under the bed, and not every earthquake brings buildings down. But maybe it's no coincidence that some of our most creative minds fail to leave these kinds of fears behind as adults.

Good afternoon ladies and Gentlemen,
I believe that humanism is about kindness and caring for people in need.
I believe the role of humanism in today’s technological world is to guide technological development to respond to human need in a benevolent way.
In 20xx I was in Yushu during that terrible earthquake. I experienced the full horror of buildings falling and people being trapped. I witnessed the quick response from modern technology when people inside yushu called people outside for help with their mobile phones. Very soon the whole world was responding whole heartedly. After only 5 hours, there was another sound- this time it was helicopters bringing doctors, medical supplies, and the facilities to evacuate the wounded to hospital.
Recent advances in earthquake detection and rescue technology have been developed in response to the need to save lives quickly.
Consider advances in green food technology, guided by the need for clean natural food and to protect the environment;
Advances in water conservation and purification, guided by the need for clean drinking water and for crops and livestock;
advances in delivering education to everyone, especially the use of video and the internet for distance learning;
advances in medicine, especially affordable medicine for AIDS sufferers in Africa;
and advances in building technology guided by the need to keep people safe and warm.
All these are the result of responding to human needs with kindness and caring and guiding technology for the benefit of mankind.
When I think about the world of advanced technology today, I think of my home, the remote and harsh environment of the Tibetan Plateau, and farmers living in tents with solar energy that they use to power their lights, TV, computers and to improve their lifestyle. I think of farmers talking on their mobile phones, discussing the weather patterns, the cost of food, community news and events. They even talk about Steve Jobs. The train to Lhasa, itself a wonderful engineering feat, brings modern medicine and education to these remote areas. The communities are now interlinked and connected, one of the most basic human needs.
Human beings have a need to be connected, to be safe to be cared for in times of trouble and hardship.
The development of technology must be guided by these needs. If this is not so, then the development of technology is in the hands of mean and, greedy people. The focus of technological development would be wars and weapons, fraud the misuse of information, and the exploitation of people, such as cheap labor.
It can only be humanism which provides the guidance we all need for a better world.
And it is you, who have the responsibility to use the technology wisely, to spread the kindness and caring.

Discover myself
Ladies and gentlemen,
Good afternoon !Today the topic of my speech is “Discover myself”
I think each people is unique.Everyone is different .I don’t need to envy others, because I think I am the only one in the world. So do u really know yourself? In my parents’eyes,I am a naughty boy. In my friends’ eyes, I am a friendly boy.In my teachers’eyes,I am a boy which progresses. But how do I think of myself?I don’t know.
Everone has merits and shortcomings. we need to discover our disadvantages and get rid of it . However, Lookers-on see most often. So mentors are necessary. In elementary school, I didn’t know the importance of studying.I just know playing all day.One day my english teacher told me (that) she thought I was a intelligent boy.I was shocked by what she said.I didn’t do well in my english subject at that time.I was encouraged by what she said.In other words, what she said made me exicted.Since then,I fell in love with English.I started to read some English novels and listen to music. My english teacher taught me patiently and encouraged me to insist on doing these.I was interested in english.I found it was easy to learn english. It does’t like I thought it would be difficult.Maybe I had talent in learning english. However,if I don’t listen to my english teacher.Maybe I would get lost.
Everybody should have confidence in discovering yourselves, although it is a difficult journey. When there is a will, there is a way.
