We often hear people say, “Never give up.” These can be encouraging words and words of determination. A personwho believes in them will keep trying to reach his goal no matter how manytimes he fails. In my opinion, the quality of determination to succeed is animportant one to have. Therefore, I believe that we should never give up.
One reason is that if we give up too easily, we will rarely achieveanything. It is not unusual for us to fail in our first attempt at somethingnew, so we should not feel discouraged and should try again. Besides, if wealways give up when we fail, we will not be able to develop new skills and growas people. Another reason we should never give up is that we can learn from ourmistakes only if we make a new effort. If we do not try again, the lesson wehave learned is wasted. Finally, we should never give up because as we work toreach our goals, we develop confidence, and this confidence can help us succeedin other areas of our lives. If we never challenge ourselves, we will begin todoubt our abilities.
In short, it is important that wedo not give up when working for our goals. Whether we succeed in the end ornot, we will learn something, and what we learn will help us to become better,more confident people. My name is Dongqi Yang from china, I am horror to be here today and I am very happy to receive this award.
As you can imagine, as international students in Australia, the biggest challenge is English,I remembered that when I come here first time, there is a party in the house of my home stay. During the time, they played jokes and they laughed all the time, do you know how embarrassed that is, everyone laughed except you. So I pretend to understand the joke in another party, I saw everyone laugh and I laugh too in 5 seconds later. My home stay was surprised about that and asked me “do you understand?”， and I answered “no”， “So why do you laugh?” ”because I do not want to be embarrassed”!
But as I receive this award today, I want to thank to them, because they encourage me to be involved with the committee rather than staying in at home, play computer and speak Chinese.
When I came to Wantirna College first time, I met liz collar who is international student coordinator. She is very kind to me, and she encourage me join SRC, I went to SRC meetings regularly all the time, but I didn’t even know what SRC was! That is the reason why I told her, I don’t want to go to SRC anymore. But she said “why not? You should go and you have to go!”I asked” why?” she said:” because I said so!”
But as ii receive this award today, I want to thank her. She helps me a lot.
Truth be told, I am not the best student in Wantirna College, but I appreciate this award and I will try my best in future.
I think I got 10 seconds left, I want to thank to Les and Vera who is my lovely home stay, thanks to Liz collar who is international student coordinator, I strongly want to thank to my mother, because she support me and gave me the opportunity to come to Australia. i have the answer to a question that we've all asked. the question is, why is it that the letter x represents the unknown? now i know we learned that in math class, but now it's everywhere in the culture -- the x prize, the x-files, project x, tedx. where'd that come from?
about six years ago i decided that i would learn arabic, which turns out to be a supremely logical language. to write a word or a phrase or a sentence in arabic is like crafting an equation, because every part is extremely precise and carries a lot of information. that's one of the reasons so much of what we've come to think of as western science and mathematics and engineering was really worked out in the first few centuries of the common era by the persians and the arabs and the turks.
this includes the little system in arabic called al-jebra. and al-jebr roughly translates to “the system for reconciling disparate parts.“ al-jebr finally came into english as algebra. one example among many.
the arabic texts containing this mathematical wisdom finally made their way to europe -- which is to say spain -- in the 11th and 12th centuries. and when they arrived there was tremendous interest in translating this wisdom into a european language.
but there were problems. one problem is there are some sounds in arabic that just don't make it through a european voice box without lots of practice. trust me on that one. also, those very sounds tend not to be represented by the characters that are available in european languages.
here's one of the culprits. this is the letter sheen, and it makes the sound we think of as sh -- “sh.“ it's also the very first letter of the word shalan, which means “something“ just like the the english word “something“ -- some undefined, unknown thing.
now in arabic, we can make this definite by adding the definite article “al.“ so this is al-shalan -- the unknown thing. and this is a word that appears throughout early mathematics, such as this 10th century derivation of proofs.

On May 4, 1919, reformist zeal found focusin a protest by Beijings students against the Versailles Peace Conferencesdecision to transfer former German concessions in China to Japan. My Views on Receiving Education
In my early years, I did not see the value of education.
When I was going on thirteen, I started to run my own shop. From then on, I worked hard to become a successful businessman.
One day I realized the importance of the English language in the business world and started taking night classes.
I was able to communicate well with foreign customers after two years of English study. But I started to feel that, in the long run, having a limited knowledge of English was not enough to make my business successful. I knew that only a well- rounded education could guarantee my success in the future.
When I was eighteen, I had to make a decision to continue doing business or go back to school. There was one obstacle keeping me from getting an advanced education. I had only completed elementary school up to that point. I then went back to senior high school after four months of tutoring in different subjects. Being at school for the first time after so many years was somewhat embarrassing because my classmates were at least two or three years younger than I. I concluded that my age did not matter. The important thing was getting into college.
I took the College Entrance Exams. Although my math exam result was only one point below the required score. I never gave up hope. The following year, I took it again and received the highest score in my city. Achieving such an amazing result gave me encouragement and courage necessary to continue my education to the next step.
I am now in my second year of college and know that it is never too late to learn. My passion for studying and improving myself will never come to a halt as long as I continue to live.
“Live and Learn.” is the motto I have adopted. I believe with an education I will succeed. So, if you are wondering whether education is important, don’t hesitate a moment to step up and seize the opportunity.

18歲的時(shí)候，我必須在繼續(xù)從商和重新回學(xué)校學(xué)習(xí)之間做出選擇。當(dāng)時(shí)我僅有的小學(xué)學(xué)歷成為我接受高等教育的一大障礙。經(jīng)過4個(gè)月各門功課的惡補(bǔ)，我又回到了高中。多年后再次回到學(xué)校，讓我有些尷尬。因?yàn)槲业耐嗤瑢W(xué)至少比我小2至3歲。然而在我看來，年齡不是問題，重要的是能上大學(xué)。
我參加了高考。雖然我的數(shù)學(xué)只比分?jǐn)?shù)線低了一分。但我沒有放棄。第二年，我又參加了高考并取得了當(dāng)?shù)氐牡谝幻５玫竭@樣一個(gè)令人欣喜的結(jié)果，給了我進(jìn)一步深造的動(dòng)力和膽量。
現(xiàn)在，我上大學(xué)二年級(jí)，也知道學(xué)無止境。只要我活者，我對(duì)學(xué)習(xí)和自我充實(shí)的熱情就不會(huì)減退。

However, who can really say what the youth is ? A period of time? A belief?An attitude to life? Or anything else? actually, everyone has his ownunderstanding of young, it is a period of time of beauty and wonders, only after you have experienced the sour , sweet ,bitter and salty, can you really become a person of significance.
Just like A famous poet said ‘ youth is a lovely song ,where nothing is impossible ,youth is a meaningful book, you’ll be never bored of it ;youth is a rapid river ,it keeps on flowing day and night ;youth is a cup of tea ,it shows you different kinds of tastes in your life. ’
As youth is so precious, of course, we must treasure it .Don’t let the limited time pass by, grasping the young will means a better time is waiting for you in the near future.

First of all,think of what you’d like to be some day. A teacher ? A doctor ? A writer? Don’t afraid of dreaming of big and great .Since you are young , you can dream of doing anything and becoming anyone in the future.
What’s more , never ignore the power of knowledge. Read more books and travel around. For one thing, it can increase your knowledge, for another, it’ll broaden your horizon.
Last but not the least , stick to your dream. It easier said than done. After all, future is not all roses. young is just like blooming flowers, they are so beautiful when blooming, which make people feel happy, but with time passing by, after they withers ,most people think they are ugly. and so it is the same with young, we are enthusiastic when we are young, then we may lose our passion when getting older and older. So we should have enough courage and determination to overcome all the difficulties in struggling on the road.

I will have a busy weekend. On Saturday, I will go to the bookstore to buy some books and go back home to read them. After lunch, I will go shopping in the supermarket to buy some bread and sausage with my mother.
On Sunday, I will go to my aunt's home because that day is her birthday. In the afternoon I go play football with my good friends, I believe that will be a lot of fun.
