　　"Advertising" or "advertisement" comes from Latin “advertere”, which means an approach to arouse public attention to something and induce a certain direction. Traditional definitions of advertising include a series of elements that distinguish the field from others. Each innovation in communication has been used for advertising, and in some way, each has changed advertising, which in turn has changed the set of elements used in its definition. However, there are or should be some essential elements that determine whether an activity is advertising, that is to say, the essential meaning is largely identical but with minor differences. In short, advertising is the non-personal communication of information usually paid for and usually persuasive in nature about products, services or ideas by identified sponsors through the various media. And we can learn the functions of advertising from the definition above which are listed as follows:1)information function; 2)demand creation function; 3)persuasive function; 4)get attention function; 5)goodwill establishment function.

　　”廣告“一詞來源于拉丁文”advertere“，指的是引起公眾對某一件東西的關(guān)注以及引導(dǎo)其往某一特定方向的方法。廣告的傳統(tǒng)定義包括一系列卻別與其他行業(yè)的元素。交流中的每一種創(chuàng)新都被用到廣告中，每一種創(chuàng)新都以某種方式改變了廣告，這反過來已經(jīng)改變了它的定義中使用的背景元素。然而，有或者應(yīng)該有一些決定一項活動是否是廣告的基本元素，也就是說，基本意思大體是一樣的，但是又細微的區(qū)別。簡而言之，廣告通常是支付的非個人信息的溝通，通常是由贊助商通過各類媒體識別的，在產(chǎn)品自然屬性、服務(wù)或者想法方面頗具說服力。我們可以從以上定義了解廣告的功能，如：1)信息功能;2)需求創(chuàng)造功能;3)說服功能;4)引起關(guān)注的功能;5)商譽設(shè)置功能。

　　Turning on the TV, we can see numerous advertisements done by the celebrities including the film stars, singers and so on. Some people believe it is worth the efforts because they think what the stars have said in the ads are true and convincing while some other people worry that the information in the ads may be misleading to the consumers. So far as I am concerned, the advertisements done by the celebrities should be limited.

　　打開電視，我們可以看到大量由名人，包括電影明星、歌手等等代言的廣告。有的人認為這是值得努力的，因為他們認為明星們在廣告中所說的是正確切有說服力的，而其他人擔心廣告中的信息可能會誤導(dǎo)消費者。在我看來，名人代言的廣告應(yīng)該受到限制。

　　First of all, the celebrities, while receiving the handsome pay for advocating some products, should be responsible for what they have said in the ads for the credibility is priceless. We have heard of some cases about the false information in the ads and a number of stars have been accused by the customers for their misdeeds. What is more, the customers should become careful and critical about the information they see in TV. It does no harm to think twice before buying the products advertised by the stars. Finally, the government needs to tighten the control over the broadcasting of the advertisement.

　　首先，名人在宣傳產(chǎn)品的同時也得到可觀的報酬，他們應(yīng)該對在廣告中所說的負責，因為廣告的信譽是無價的。我們已經(jīng)聽說了一些有關(guān)廣告中的虛假信息的案例，很多明星因其誤導(dǎo)而被消費者控告。另外，消費者對在電視上看到的信息應(yīng)該小心和批判。在購買明星代言的產(chǎn)品前三思而后行是百益而無一害的。最后，政府需要加強對廣告廣播的控制。

　　To sum up, the stars should be responsible when doing the advertisement and in the mean time, the consumers should be careful when shopping.
