Spring Festival
spring festival is a traditional chinese festival that are endowed with the most colorful chinese styles. it has a history of more than 4000 years. there are many holdings relted to the origins of spring festivals, among which a universally accepted view is that spring festival emerged from the period of yu and shun.generally speaking, spring festival is the first day of lunar janauary, the first day of a year. it is also called lunar calendar year, and it has a secular name "guo nian", like surpass the year's borderline. however, according to the folklore, the traditional spring festival starts from the worshipping ceremony at the 8th day of lunar december, or kitchen god worshipping on lunar december 23, or 24, until lunar january 19 of the following year.the last day of a lunar year and the first day of lunar january are the climaxes. during the spring festival period, han ethnic people and many other minority ethnicities will all hold various events to celebrate. these activities all centers on god and buddha worshipping, ancestor worshipping, dispeling obsoleteness and making each replacement with new stuff, greeting with bliss and blessing, and praying for a good harvest. these events are colorful and abundant, featuring intense ethnic styles.influenced by chinese culture, other countries or ethnic groups affiliated to chinese character cutural circle all keep the custom of celebrating spring festival.
