　　The world we live in is becoming more and more intolerable because of environmental destruction. For example forest destruction results in decrease of planting land and unpleasant weather. In addition man is faced with problems of water pollution and air pollution.

　　A lot of measures have been taken. Planting trees helps improve and beautify the environment. Besides laws concerning environmental protection have been put into effect and achieved good results.

　　However the problem of environmental protection remains far from being solved. On the one hand the environment pollution and destruction are getting worse and worse in the modern world. On the other hand the lack of knowledge about the importance of protecting environment hinders the solving of the problem. In a word there is a long way to go before we enjoy a clean and comfortable world.

　　今天早上，窗外小鳥啾啾地叫聲把我從夢中叫醒。

　　我瞇瞇眼睜開了雙眼，拉開窗簾，往窗外一瞧，啊!太陽出來了。咦，為什么一連下了好幾天的雨，一夜之間換成了艷陽天?我想一定是太陽公公急著向全天下的媽媽說：“母親節(jié)快樂!”

　　想到這，我立刻起床，跑到媽媽跟前：“母親節(jié)快樂!”

　　媽媽高興地說：“謝謝，有你這樣懂事的孩子媽媽最快樂!”

　　聽了媽媽這句話，我暗暗下定決心：“我不只要在母親節(jié)這天做讓媽媽開心的事，以后每一天，我都要讓媽媽開心!”

　　This morning, the birds chirped outside my window and woke me from mydream.

　　I closed my eyes, drew the curtains, and looked out the window. The sun iscoming out. Why, why did it rain for several days in a row? I think it must bethe sun gong who is eager to say to the whole world, "happy mother's day!"

　　Thinking of this, I immediately got up and ran to my mother: "happymother's day!"

　　"Thank you," said the mother happily, "that's the happiest child you'veever known."

　　It is undeniable that the worsening environment has become the biggest concern of the present-day world. Land resources are dwindling because of water loss and soil erosion. Waste gases poison the air we breathe. The rivers and lakes are polluted by waste

　　dumped in them from factories. It is probably no exaggeration to say that deterioration of the quality of the environment threatens the existence of mankind itself.

　　Some people are of the opinion that the environmental problem is the price we have to pay for economic development. But I do not think that this argument is valid. After all, what is the point of economic growth if people’s lives are adversely alfected by worsening environmental pollution

　　There is plenty of evidence to show that sustainable development can be achieved by balancing economic growth with protection of the environment. The key to achieving this is to make people aware of the seriousness of the problem. Both governments and

　　ordinary citizens should join hands to make this world a better place to live in, not only for ourselves, but also for future generations.

　　環(huán)境與發(fā)展
