Almost all the villagers come to my mother when their baby is due. Mymother is very good at predicting the day the baby will come.
Sometimes my mother will not get enough sleep if the babies come late atnight or early in the morning.
There are special rooms for the mother and baby, and usually they stay atthe doctor's house about twenty-four hours.
We always like to see the new babies get their first bath because they lookso red and small.

And when you’re lying comfortably in your bed, mother is there...tellingyou to get up,telling you not to be so lazy, to tidy your room, to do yourhomework. And later, she’s there telling you that the style of clothes you wearis awful, and your friends are no good, and “Why can’t you be more like yourcousin, the brilliant student?”
Yes, mothers are great, sometimes too great. No one in your life is goingto know more about you and care more about you than your mother. In many ways,mothers are the centres of their children’s universe. We depend on them for somany things and they give us so much. That can lead to feelings of being“smothered” by mother; of being too dependent on her; of being loved too much.And sometimes we just take “good old” mom for granted. We think she has nothingbetter to do than take care of our every little need. That she must stopwhatever she’s doing and bring us food or sew on a button.
