從前有一個(gè)國家，地不大，人不多，但是人民過著悠閑快樂的生活，因?yàn)樗麄冇幸晃徊幌矚g做事的國王和一位不喜歡做官的智慧大臣。
這個(gè)智慧大臣最大的特點(diǎn)就是積極——不論遇上什么事，他總是愿意去看事物好的那一面，而拒絕消極觀點(diǎn)。由于智慧大臣凡事都抱著積極的態(tài)度，的確為國王妥善地處理了許多麻煩事，因而備受國王的敬重，凡事皆要咨詢他的意見。
國王沒有什么不良嗜好，除了打獵以外，最喜歡與智慧大臣微服私訪民隱。智慧大臣除了處理政務(wù)外，就是陪著國王下鄉(xiāng)巡視，如果是他一個(gè)人的話，他最喜歡研究宇宙人生的真理，他最常掛在嘴邊的一句話就是“一切都是最好的安排”。
有一次，國王興高采烈地到大草原打獵，隨從們帶著數(shù)十條獵犬，聲勢(shì)浩蕩。國王的身體保養(yǎng)得非常好，筋骨結(jié)實(shí)，而且肌膚泛光，看起來就有一國之君的氣度，隨從看見國王騎在馬上，威風(fēng)凜凜地追逐一頭花豹，都不禁贊嘆國王 勇武過人!花豹奮力逃命，國王緊迫不舍，一直追到花豹的速度減慢時(shí)，國王才從容不迫彎弓搭箭，瞄準(zhǔn)花豹，嗖的一聲，利箭像閃電似的，一眨眼就飛過草原，不偏不倚鉆入花豹的頸子，花豹慘嘶一聲，仆倒在地。
國王很開心，他眼看花豹躺在地上許久都毫無動(dòng)靜，一時(shí)失去戒心，居然在隨從尚未趕上時(shí)，就下馬檢視花豹。誰想到，花豹就是在等待這一瞬間，使出最后的力氣，突然跳起來向國王撲過來。國王一愣，看見花豹張開血盆大口咬來，他下意識(shí)地閃了一下，心想：“完了!”
還好，隨從及時(shí)趕上，立刻發(fā)箭射入花豹的咽喉，國王覺得小指一涼，花豹就悶不吭聲跌在地上，這次真的死了。
隨從忐忑不安走上來詢問國王是否無恙，國王看看手，小指頭被花豹咬掉小半截，血流不止，隨行的御醫(yī)立刻上前包扎。雖然傷勢(shì)不算嚴(yán)重，但國王的興致破壞光了，本來國王還想找人來責(zé)罵一番，可是想想這次只怪自己冒失，還能怪誰?所以悶不吭聲，大伙兒就黯然回宮去了。
回宮以后，國王越想越不痛快，就找了智慧大臣來飲酒解愁。智慧大臣知道了這事后，一邊舉酒敬國王，一邊微笑說：“大王啊!少了一小塊肉總比少了一條命來得好吧!想開一點(diǎn)，一切都是最好的安排!”
國王一聽，悶了半天的不快終于找到宣泄的機(jī)會(huì)。他凝視智慧大臣說：“你真是膽大包天，我的手指都沒了，你還認(rèn)為這是最好的安排!”
智慧大臣發(fā)覺國王十分憤怒，卻毫不在意說：“大王，真的，如果我們能夠超越自我一時(shí)的得失成敗，確確實(shí)實(shí)，一切都是最好的安排�！�
國王說：“如果我把你關(guān)進(jìn)監(jiān)獄，這也是最好的安排?”
智慧大臣微笑說：“如果是這樣，我也深信這是最好的安排�！�
國王說：“如果我吩咐侍衛(wèi)把你拖出去砍了，這也是最好的安排?”
智慧大臣依然微笑，仿佛國王在說一件與他毫不相干的事�！叭绻沁@樣，我也深信這是最好的安排�！�
國王勃然大怒，大手用力一拍，兩名侍衛(wèi)立刻近前，國王說：“你們馬上把智慧大臣抓出去斬了!”侍衛(wèi)愣住，一時(shí)不知如何反應(yīng)。國王說：“還不快點(diǎn)，等什么?”侍衛(wèi)如夢(mèng)初醒，上前架起智慧大臣，就往門外走去。國王忽然有點(diǎn)后悔，他大叫一聲說：“慢著，先抓去關(guān)起來!”智慧大臣回頭對(duì)他—笑，說：“這也是最好的安排!”
國王大手一揮，兩名侍衛(wèi)就架著智慧大臣走出去了。
過了一個(gè)月，國王養(yǎng)好傷，打算像以前一樣找智慧大臣一塊兒微服私巡，可是想到是自己親口把他關(guān)入監(jiān)獄里，一時(shí)也放不下面子釋放智慧大臣，嘆了口氣，就自己獨(dú)自出游了。
走著走著，來到一處偏遠(yuǎn)的山林，忽然從山上沖下一隊(duì)臉上涂著紅黃油彩的蠻人，三兩下就把他五花大綁，帶回高山上。國王這時(shí)才想到今天正是滿月，這一帶有一支原始部落，每逢月圓之日就會(huì)下山尋找祭祀滿月女神的犧牲品。他哀嘆一聲，這下子真的是沒救了。其實(shí)心里卻很想跟蠻人說：“我乃這里的國王，放了我，我就賞賜你們金山銀海!”可是嘴巴被破布塞住，連話都說不出口。
當(dāng)他看見自己被帶到一口比人還高的大鍋爐，柴火正熊熊燃燒，更是臉色慘白。大祭司現(xiàn)身，當(dāng)眾脫光國王的衣服，露出他細(xì)皮嫩肉的龍?bào)w，大祭司嘖嘖稱奇，想不到現(xiàn)在還能找到這么完美無瑕的祭品!
原來，今天要祭祀的滿月女神，正是“完美”的象征，所以，祭祀的牲品丑一點(diǎn)、黑一點(diǎn)、矮一點(diǎn)都沒有關(guān)系，就是不能殘缺。就在這時(shí)，大祭司終于發(fā)現(xiàn)國王的左手小指頭少了小半截，他忍不住咬牙切齒咒罵了半天，忍痛下令說：“把這個(gè)廢物趕走，另外再找一個(gè)!”
脫困的國王大喜若狂，飛奔回宮，立刻叫人釋放智慧大臣，在御花園設(shè)宴，為自己保住一命、也為智慧大臣重獲自由而慶祝。
國王一邊向智慧大臣敬酒說：“你說的真是一點(diǎn)也不錯(cuò)，果然，一切都是最好的安排!如果不是被花豹咬一口，今天連命都沒了�！�
智慧大臣笑著對(duì)國王說：“恭喜大王對(duì)人生的體驗(yàn)有了新的境界。”過了一會(huì)兒，國王忽然問智慧大臣說：“我僥幸逃回一命，固然是‘一切都是最好的安排’，可是你無緣無故在監(jiān)獄里蹲了一個(gè)月，難道這也是最好的安排?”
智慧大臣慢條斯理喝下一口酒，才說：“大王啊!您將我關(guān)在牢中，確實(shí)也是最好的安排啊!陛下不妨想想，今天我若不是在牢中，陪陛下出獵的大臣會(huì)是誰呢?等到蠻人發(fā)現(xiàn)國王不適合拿來祭祀滿月女神時(shí)，誰會(huì)被丟進(jìn)大鍋爐中烹煮呢?不是我還有誰呢?所以，我要為大王將我關(guān)進(jìn)監(jiān)獄而向您敬酒，您也救了我一命啊!”
有段猶太俗諺是這樣的：如果斷了一條腿，你就該感謝上帝不曾折斷你兩條腿;如果斷了兩條腿，你就該感謝上帝不曾折斷你的脖子;如果斷了脖子，那也就沒什么好擔(dān)憂的了。猶太人認(rèn)為，擁有積極思想的人，對(duì)任何事都抱著樂觀的態(tài)度，即使遇上挫折，積極者也會(huì)認(rèn)為那是成功前的必經(jīng)考驗(yàn)。所以，他們凡事都永遠(yuǎn)想好的一面。他們用這樣一則幽默來勸說人們接受與加深這種思想。
