　　Since I came to the college, I have been holding positions of class and youth league union. I also have done some pragmatic work for the university and our schoolmates. During the communication with our schoolmates, I feel it deep that the cohesion of a unit lies in a developing and advancing collective, while the strength for it comes from sincerity, understanding and contributions. As a leader of student, one should have a firm belief with sacrifice. As a leader of student, one should be willing to make up the gap between man and man, idea and reality with his fierce feelings. As a leader of student, one should not be selfish. What he seeks for is to work hard and give himself up to the service.

　　I, as one of the thousands of students of Economy College, am proud of it. I would be more willing to take up the duty belonging to me. This is my initial hope. This is why I am standing here today.

　　I remember one candidate himself said loudly, "Should I leave the position quietly or be bold to stay?" During the last competition for student union. As a result, he was bold to stay for the position. To day, I would like to let everyone know that I hope that I will be kept for the position. Even though I fail, I won't leave quietly and angrily out of spite because I am a member of Economy College, and because my roots are in the Mei Campus.

　　No mater where I go, Mei Campus always stays with me and my deep feelings to it always keeps in me. I would like to work heart and soul, for my love of Mei Campus. I earnestly hope to contribute my feelings and fervently hope to share the happiness and be concerned about the worries with every one of Mei campus.

　　Dear Judges and Friends,

　　The topic for my speech today is “Festival.” I would like to talk about my favorite festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival.

　　In China we have several important festivals, such as the Spring Festival, the Lantern Festival, the Dragon-boat Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival. Among them, I like Mid-Autumn festival best, especially because I live in Xiamen.

　　In Xiamen, when we celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival, we do not only follow the common practices such as having a big dinner party with our family, eating mooncakes, and appreciating the full moon at night, we also have one unique custom which is only practiced in Xiamen, that is “Bo Bing”.

　　“Bo Bing” is a very interesting game that almost all Xiamen people play during this festival. Usually family members or close friends get together around a table with a big round bowl in the middle and six dices in the bowl. We take turns to throw the dices into the bowl. We will get different prizes accroding to the different ways the dices show their upper sides. Everyone is likely to become the champion or “Zhuangyuan” for the year. There is an element of luck and equal opportunity in this game. So people usually get excited while playing. Also, the game gives very pleasant sounds. The tinkling made by the dices falling into the bowl is pleasant, people’s laughing, cheering and applauding for the big prizes they’ve won is pleasant. All this adds greatly to the joyful atmosphere of this festival. As a kid, of course I also like the material prizes I get from the game, such as a candy or a cake.

　　Every conversationalist believes that the perfect way to engage audiences is to maintain eye contact with them. Looking at people in the eye tends to draw their wavering attentions to the conversation at hand. If you want to improve your communication skills remember to engage your audiences by directly looking at them. Eye contact ties the speaker to the masses with an invisible tether and forces them to pay attention. Without eye contact verbal communication is rendered completely futile.

　　交流的技巧四、 Mind Your Body Language

　　The body does not need a verbal language to express itself. It can communicate viamannerisms, expressions and physical conduct. When it comes to effective communication skills, excellent verbal content is coupled with sound physical expression to render an engaging effect on the audiences. Animated gestures, lively expressions and physical mannerisms are excellent ways of conveying a given idea. A deadpan expression only conveys a lacklustre attitude and boredom, whereas an animated front is more engaging to witness. If you want to improve your communication skills, you should start observing others while they speak. Talk to yourself and check your body language in the mirror to ascertain your flaws and improve upon them.
