　　Protecting the Environment

　　Environmental problems are becoming more and more serious all over the world. For example, cars have made the air unhealthy for people to breathe and poisonous gas is given off by factories. Trees on the hills have been cut down and waste water is being poured continuously into rivers. Furthermore, wherever we go today, we can find rubbish carelessly disposed. Pollution is, in fact, threatening our existence.

　　The earth is our home and we have the duty to take care of it for ourselves and for our later generations. Fortunately, more and more people have realized these problems. Measures have been taken to cope with these problems by the government. Laws have been passed to stop pollution. I hope the problem will be solved in the near future and our home will become better and better.

　　全世界的環(huán)境問題變得越來越嚴(yán)重。例如汽車污染的空氣影響了人們的呼吸，工廠釋放污染的氣體，山上的樹木被砍伐，污水不斷被排人河里。另外，無論我們走到哪里，到處可見隨意丟棄的垃圾。事實上，污染正威脅我們的生存。

　　地球是我們的家園，我們有責(zé)任為我們自己和我們的后代去照顧好它。慶幸的是，愈來愈多的人們已經(jīng)意識到這些問題。政府已經(jīng)采取了很多措施去解決這些問題，法律已被通過以制止污染。我希望這些問題在不遠的將來能得到解決，我們的家園變得越來越好。

　　Yesterday morning, I heard a terrible news that my friend Lihua was admitted to the hospital because of a car accident. The day before yesterday, Lihua was going to bookstore to buy a book. He was very careful when he got to the crossroad. He crossed the street then the traffic light turned green. However, when he just went to the middle of the street, a car suddenly appeared at his right-hand side and came directly towards him. The driver drove fast and it was too late to dodge. Lihua was knocked down by a few meters away. He was taken to the hospital immediately and had a surgery. Last night, I visited to him. He looked pale although he was out of danger.

　　昨天早上，我聽說了一條可怕的消息，我的朋友李華因為 一起交通事故被送往醫(yī)院。前天，李華正去書店買書。過馬路的時候他很小心。他過街的時候交通燈就變綠了。但是，當(dāng)他只走到中間的時候，一輛汽車突然出現(xiàn)在他的右手邊直直向他行駛。司機開得太快來不及剎車。李華被撞飛了幾米。他馬上被送往醫(yī)院動了手術(shù)。昨天晚上，我去看望他了。盡管他已經(jīng)脫離危險，但看上去還是很蒼白。

　　Chongyang, the traditional Chinese festival for the elderly, is coming around. We are planning to visit the Nursing Home to celebrate the speeial day, and we would like to invite students from your school to join us.

　　Looking forward to your early reply.

　　We have planned several activities. When we get there, we will visit the elderly in their rooms in groups, presenitng them with flowers and self-made cards to show our respect and love. Then we will do some cleaning and washing for them with the help of the nurses.

　　As some old people feel lonely. We may chat with them about their old days, changes of our city, or anything they are interested in. We may also give them some performanees: singing, daneing, and so on.
