High School Life VS University Life英語作文8篇

high school life vs university life

蔣嬋涵  (jacinthe) a057  point-by point comparison

i will always remember the day on which i stepped into the gate of my

university ,excited and happy, thinking that i can change my future. all the

things are fresh to me ,and the new life encouraged me to keep active all the

time. for the time being, however, without the initial excitement, i gradually

found that the life in university is not what i had imagined.

in university, we have lots of freedom, which is totally different from the

life in high school. we can take seats we like instead of the fixed seats in

  fixed classroom in high school.

also, we have to do everything on our own. the only person we can depend on is

ourselves, in contrast, we can rely on our parents, our teachers in high

school, and self-reliance was much less important in daily life.

on the other hand, high school life and university life share lots of

similarities as well. for example, it is our duty to always attach great

importance to our lessons both in high school and in university, which is much

to my surprise. as the saying goes, “reward lies ahead of diligence, but

  nothing is gained by indolence.”

though there are striking differences between the ways of life, they are all my

  valuable experiences

  albert. lee        (李立)

time flies! it seems a moment ,whereas, the fact is that i have really become

a college student. in retrospect, i can’t help exclaiming over my perseverance

and bravery for my pursuit of dreamed university. meanwhile, i also want to put

my finger on the difference between my high school life and now, the college

  one.

after my careful consideration, i find out three big differences between them.

the primary one is the ways of teaching and learning. at high school, i got

used to doing what the teachers required, such as reciting essays, finishing

homework, doing many papers, etc. actually, this is so-called “spoon-feeding”

. in contrast, we must be active for learning at college. we students can

dominate most of spare time and there is sufficient freedom for us to study

  further whatever we like.

and the second difference might be the ways of living. at high school, since

our attention is mainly focused on study, our life is attended to by our

parents. nevertheless, entering the college means putting the help and care

behind and handling all living things on our own. we must learn how to live

independently and how to make decisions on ourselves. it’s a challenge for us

as well as an opportunity to help us to grow up.

what’s more, it couldn’t be neglected that there is an obvious distinction

between the two lifestyles in terms of goals and plans. while at high school,

our goals may be limited and generally ideal, but the plan may be dim. overall,

the college entrance examination serves as the sole center of everything.

totally differently, as a college student, we must set certain goals early and

make our plans clear enough, not only for several exams, but for further

future. only in this way can a college student find his position and enrich

  himself.

above is my consideration about the contrast of life between the high school

and college. anyhow, we are in college now, we should learn to change and adapt

to the college life style. we are supposed to do what we should.

half a year ago, being a high school student, l was studying hard to get

prepared for the college entrance examination. faced with such large quantities

of homework and tasks everyday, l was really bored with high school life, so l

usually couldn't help looking forward to my university life. now, l have been a

college student for two months.having experienced both of the lifestyles,l have

to say that they are quite different.

in high school, what matters most is grade and our critical aim is to get

higher grades in the college entrance examination, so our priority is studying.

with this principle, we have to get up early in the morning and then hurry to

the classroom to start the whole-day learning. during the daytime, we will have

many classes and finally be left with much homework. we usually can't finish

all the homework until it's late in the night, so we hardly have time for

relaxation and entertainment. what's more, in high school we have to study hard

because of the pressure from parents, teachers and fierce competitions. in this

circumstance, some of us may be bored with such a lifestyle while others may

take delight in it and enjoy themselves. whatever, work gives us a sense of

fulfillment and a sense of achievement.

now, things have changed in university. we have fewer classes and less homework

so our pressure in studying is smaller. we can get up late in the morning and

our teacher is not serious in the least. during the class, whether you listen

carefully or not all depends on yourselves. if you are at will, you can sleep

for a whole forenoon in the classroom without a teacher’s blaming you. so,

studying at college calls for more self-control than pressure from teachers.

besides. we have more free time after class and now what matters most is the

development of competence and ability rather than simple grades. so, how to

take advantage of our spare time is rather important. you can sleep all day

long in the dormitory and you can also go to the library and take part in many

  organizations and activities.

in a word, what our university life is like depends on our own. so we should

take a positive attitude and live a meaningful university life.

in  common  with  most  teenagers, i  successfully  passed  the  college

entrance  examination  and  now  have  been  a  college  student  for  over  a

month.  although  the  campus  life  so  far  is  short,  i  find  it  totally

different  from  my  high  school  life.

in  high  school, my  goal  was  very  clear—that  was  to  be  admitted  to

a  key  university. so  everything  of  me  went  on  following  the  goal.

for instance, i  just  studied  for  grades  rather  than  the  knowledge

itself, and  often  drowned  myself  into  the  sea  tactical  issues. as  a

result, the  process  was  quite  boring. apart  from  this, i  was  badly

lacking  in freedom  as  well, for everything  was  restricted  in  all  nasty

rules. moreover, my  social  circle  was  indeed  small, which  made  me

  nervous  when talking  with  strangers.

while  things  at  university  are  completely  different. it takes  on  a

brand  new  life. firstly, study  is  my  own  responsibility  rather  than

the  teacher’s. the  teacher  just  serves  as  a  guide to  the  door  of

knowledge. and  i  can  learn  whatever  i  like  besides  what  i  don’t

like, which  can  really  broaden  my  horizons. secondly, i  now  study  not

only  for  exams  but  also  for  building  up  my  overall  abilities.

however, what delights me  most  is  the  freedom. with  the  releasing  of

freedom, i  can  build  good  social  circles  with  other  like-minded

  people.

though  there  is  a  sharp  contrast  between  them, i  really  appreciate  my

high  school  life  and  promise  to  live  the  university  life  to  the

  fullest!

for several months in university, it has become clear to me that the difference

between high school life and university life is huge.

the most different place is new teachers and classmates who we would meet at

first. the contrast can also be seen in terms of ways how teachers give class.

in high school, reliance on teachers is apparent. i mean, all things you have

learned were mostly from teachers. but in university, it may sound stupid if

you want to learn more things from teachers. it is said that you should learn

knowledge by yourself. so ways of learning will be taught instead of knowledge

  itself.

the second difference is that we have to live an independent life. we may stay

together with our parents or relatives. but now, there are students from all

around the country, so college students may attach more importance to learning

  how to live independently.

the last difference can also be found in our ways of budgeting. finance plays

an important role in our life now. maybe we were not bothered by money in the

least in high school. however, money is a big deal to us in university. you

couldn’t live well without money at all. on the other hand, it is wise for us

to make a economic plan so as to save money effectively.

in retrospect, not only knowledge we could learn in university, but also some

skills that are beneficial for our future life. these are big differences

between high school life and university life.

liberty, which is promoted as the principle of education in america, is

absorbed perfectly into university life. there are no teachers around you any

more. instead, anything you do is totally decided by yourself. limits and

restriction are unavailable in the university.(wendy: i doubt it!)  the time

after class will be too much to be spent. someone may be lost in the university

because they don’t know how to use time efficiently.

but in high school , there is no need to worry about that because study is

your priority. everything is attended to by others except yourself. for

instance, teachers and parents will take care of you; your homework will be

checked; the rest of your time will be arranged by your parents so much so that

there won’t be freedom in your life any longer. actually, the life in high

  school is somehow meaningful.

since i attended college, i have felt a great change in life.to be brief, i

think college life differs from high school life mainly in three ways.

first, i'm glad that i have adapted to living on campus independently because i

had been used to living in dormitory in my middle school life. but the

difference is that living at college is quite far from my home and i have to do

many things and make various decisions on my own. and for most of us, we suffer

from homesickness ocassionally for not being able to shee them for a long time.

next,we have been suprised for the teaching methods. in high school, our

teachers showed us how to solve every kind of problems by giving us detailed

explanation and many tests.at college, however, there can be more freedom.there

won't be any teachers standing around you, asking you to finish your homework

at once. now, it's you who should watch over(monitor) yourself. in addition,

problems need to be solved by ourselves in our spare time.

finaly,at college, it can be a great challenge for us to maintain a friendly

relationship with our classmates from all over china, who have their own unique

personalities. as we live and study together, there is bound to be divergence or

disagreement in opinions.so we have to learn to get on well with each other.

in order to adapt to college life,we should learn to be self-dependent and try

to form good study habits. besides,we can take part in many activities with our

classmates to get along well with them.only in these ways can we live a happy

  and meaningful college life.

after having acquainted myself with our life in college, we have felt a great

change. we maintain the idea that discrepances stand between our life in

  college and in high school.

in high school, our teachers showed us the way to solve every problem by

detailed explanation. after a period of study, they will help us review what we

have learned again and again. however, in college, the teachers only give us a

brief explanation and we have to understand it and solve problems by ourselves

  after class.

our relationship with classmates is also distinct from that in high

school. we have classes in a big classroom with students from different majors.

nonetheless, it was easy to have a close and friendly relationship with

classmates in high school whereas this is no longer the case at college.

all in all, college life differs in many aspects from our high school life.

we should try our best to adjust ourselves to the new challenges in college.
