五百羅漢:歸元寺早年藏有清嘉慶三年(1798年)常州天寧寺石刻五百羅漢像拓本。道光季年(1850年),歸元寺僧及民間工匠以拓為本,再行創(chuàng)作,歷九個(gè)寒暑,五百尊者方塑成,雕塑藝術(shù)之高為國(guó)內(nèi)所獨(dú)有。到歸元寺數(shù)羅漢現(xiàn)已成為武漢民間的一種習(xí)俗。 歸元寺始建于清順治十五年(1658年),以其建筑精美、雕塑絕妙、珍藏豐富而名揚(yáng)佛門。它與寶通寺、溪蓮寺、正覺(jué)寺今稱為武漢的四大叢林。
寺廟由藏經(jīng)閣、大雄寶殿、羅漢堂三座主題建筑構(gòu)成。寺廟以弘揚(yáng)佛法聞名于世,幾百年來(lái)一直是佛教信徒朝拜的圣地,中外游客絡(luò)繹不絕,香火十分旺盛。
建的新閣是歸元寺的一大寶藏,除藏經(jīng)外,還有佛像、法物、石雕、木刻、書畫碑貼及外國(guó)友人贈(zèng)品。有兩件令人驚嘆的珍品:一是在長(zhǎng)寬不過(guò)6寸的紙面寫著由5424個(gè)字組成的“佛”字,寫著全部《金剛經(jīng)》和《心經(jīng)》原文;二是血書《華嚴(yán)經(jīng)》和《法華經(jīng)》。
新閣建筑布局分為中院、南院、北院三組。中院有放生池。池兩側(cè)為鐘鼓樓,正中為韋馱殿,再進(jìn)是大雄寶殿。其南北兩廂為客堂和齋堂,其后為禪堂。南院羅漢堂供奉有500尊以脫塑工藝制作的羅漢塑像,形態(tài)各異,栩栩如生,是我國(guó)傳統(tǒng)塑像藝術(shù)中的上品。北院有藏經(jīng)閣、大士閣、翠微井等建筑。
寺內(nèi)的建筑、佛教經(jīng)典以及各種佛像歷經(jīng)“文革”浩劫而完整保留了下來(lái),其中尤以羅漢堂供奉的500尊金身羅漢為顯著特色,是湖北四大佛教禪寺之一,國(guó)家重點(diǎn)佛教寺院。

好了各位朋友,我們現(xiàn)在所在的位置就是大雄寶殿了。大雄寶殿是寺院的中心殿堂,這是僧人們?cè)缤碜龉φn,大小法會(huì)的地方。大家看到的這尊身材高達(dá)5米多,慈眉善目,珈趺與蓮花之上的便是釋迦牟尼了,左右兩邊分別立著阿難和迦葉兩大弟子。相傳在釋迦牟尼死后,阿難和迦葉帶領(lǐng)廣大佛教弟子繼續(xù)研究和推廣佛學(xué),為佛教的傳播和發(fā)展做出了重大的貢獻(xiàn)。在佛像前面這條長(zhǎng)3.96米,高1.6米,寬0.83米的供案,也是一件不可多得樟木雕刻珍品。在釋迦牟尼的背后,則是以海島觀音象為中心的雕塑群。海島觀音又稱“倒坐觀音”或“南海觀音”。在觀音的身后則是一組佛像,有興趣的游客,大家可以數(shù)一數(shù)。有的游客已經(jīng)數(shù)出來(lái)了,確實(shí)是24座,他們代表著24諸天,這些雕象采用了大型夾麻藝術(shù)工藝。大家可以發(fā)現(xiàn)這些雕象都呈立體傾斜式與墻面基座連接,經(jīng)過(guò)測(cè)定,雕像的傾斜度有30度,從清順治十八年,也就是公元1661年至今已有300多年歷史,它不墜不毀,實(shí)屬一大奇跡。
看完了大雄寶殿,我們?cè)俚角懊娴捻f馱殿去看看!我們所看到的這尊右手持杵在地的雕像便是韋馱了,不知道大家注意到了沒(méi)有,為什么各個(gè)寺院韋馱持杵的姿勢(shì)會(huì)不同呢?大家可以盡情的發(fā)揮一下自己的想象力。其實(shí),韋馱持杵的不同姿勢(shì),與寺廟的規(guī)模大小由著密切的關(guān)系。韋馱左手持杵在肩,則表明該寺廟太小,既不供吃也不供住;兩手持杵的,則表明寺廟為中等規(guī)模;供吃但不供住。我們現(xiàn)在所看到的這尊韋馱像吃杵在地,則表明歸元寺的規(guī)模很大,既能供吃又能供住。
游完了韋馱殿后了,我將帶大家去一處不得不去的地方,可能大家已經(jīng)猜到了,我們下一站將是歸元寺久負(fù)盛名的羅漢堂了。羅漢堂最早建于清道光年間,在咸豐年間毀于兵亂之中,于光緒年間再建。歸元禪寺的羅漢堂布局呈田字形,內(nèi)有四個(gè)天井式的內(nèi)院,院中栽種了奇花異草,四季長(zhǎng)青。這羅漢堂除了可供參觀外,人們還喜歡用它來(lái)預(yù)測(cè)一年內(nèi)的禍福,也就是武漢人說(shuō)的“數(shù)羅漢”,方法是隨意選中一尊羅漢,然后順著數(shù)下去,數(shù)到和自己年齡相等時(shí)看看那尊羅漢是什么樣子就可以推測(cè)這一年的運(yùn)勢(shì)了。
我國(guó)有句俗話說(shuō)的:泥菩薩過(guò)江——自身難保,而在歸元寺的羅漢堂就不能這么說(shuō)了,因?yàn)檫@里的羅漢堂既不是木雕也不是泥塑,而是采用一種盛行于唐代的獨(dú)特工藝制成的夾“佇”像。這里的羅漢每尊不超過(guò)25公斤,體輕質(zhì)堅(jiān),不透水,不怕浸。很適合武漢地勢(shì)低洼,濕度大的氣候環(huán)境。1954年武漢遭遇百年不遇的特大洪水,很多地方都變成了一片廢墟,這些羅漢也浸泡在水里,洪水退后,羅漢卻安然無(wú)恙。所以如此看來(lái),別說(shuō)是過(guò)江,就算是讓它們?nèi)テ筮^(guò)?峙乱膊怀蓡(wèn)題。
